@MartinSLewis Bought my first house in 2004 for £104k... the year before that same house was on the market for £32k!!

For me, that's a false comparison. In the 1980s a typical house price was around 3x annual salary, now its over 6x (and over 10x in some parts of the country). It is clearly more difficult for first timers to buy, evidenced by the fact the average age of first ownership has risen substantially. What matters most to people is what's changing. If you buy a house on 2% interest rate and it rises to 6% that's a big hit. Buy at 10% and its stay at 10% and your budgeting works. In the last few months worst of all we've see fixed rate mortgages rise, while fixed rate savings fall. So the margins are getting bigger.

I'm one of those. My mortgage rate went up by 2% when I renewed this year. As a result it is costing me nearly £4000 a year extra. That is just a 2% increase. These people who compare the interest rates of the 80s to now don't understand how vastly different the cost of homes are today.

UK - David Lammy stating here he is Caribbean and demanding reparations from the UK. Even though he’s the BRITISH foreign Secretary and born in Tottenham, his parents originally came from Guyana … which is not in the Caribbean. Odd.

I have never claimed a single penny from any government but I’m still getting penalised. Honesty doesn’t pay

About to head off to meet @RachelReevesMP at her Commons office - very grateful for her time. On my (long list) to discuss includes Winter Fuel Payments, Carers Allowance, LISAs, Cost of Living and far more. I'm wearing my 'campaigner' not 'journalist' hat when i go in, so won't be reporting on the meeting, as its far more productive that way. My views on these issues are pretty well known though, so its not hard to work out what I'll say.
