EFCC Sets the Record Straight on UUTH Incident Following the impassioned reaction of Nigerians to a recent incident at the Uyo University Teaching Hospital, UUTH, involving operatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Commission and some staff of the hospital, the Commission is constrained to issue further clarification concerning the episode. The presence of the Commission’s Operatives in the facility on Tuesday, May 12th, 2026 was purely administrative, to facilitate the authentication of a document, rather than a tactical operation to effect arrest. Contrary to the information making the rounds, no arrests were made and the staff of the hospital that followed our operatives to the Zonal Command were not detained. The Commission is outraged by the allegations of brutalisation of staff of the hospital. Even though we have not seen any physical evidence of such brutality in terms of bodily harm or injury to anyone, including to the staff members who addressed the media on this issue, the Commission as a responsible organisation, has ordered an investigation into the incident. While awaiting the outcome of this inquiry, any staff of the Commission found to have deviated from the Standard Operating Procedure of the Agency, will not be spared. The Commission acknowledges stakeholders who have shown concern in the amicable resolution of the issue and ,once again, reassures the public, including medical staff of the UUTH, that the May 12th incident was an aberration and should not be allowed to be exploited by some fifth columnists to undermine the fight against corruption in Nigeria. The EFCC recognizes the rights of every Nigerian and will continue to pursue its mandate without distraction or encroachment on the inalienable right of anyone.

Yesterday, I joined the President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, and leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a crucial meeting in Uyo ahead of the 2027 elections. At the meeting, I formally consulted the stakeholders on my intention to seek a second term as Governor and thanked them for their loyalty, support, and commitment to the progress of our State. I urged everyone to approach the forthcoming primaries with maturity, peace, and a spirit of sportsmanship, remembering that no personal ambition is greater than the collective interest of our party and our State. With unity, mutual respect, and the fear of God, we will continue to work together for a greater and more prosperous Akwa Ibom, in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Renewed Hope Agenda, whose reelection we have also collectively endorsed.

Why EFCC Operatives Visited UUTH The Tuesday, May 12, 2026, visit of operatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, UUTH, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State was informed by the need to authenticate a medical report presented by a suspect under remand by Justice M.A Onyetunu of the Federal High Court, Uyo, for allegedly defrauding multiple micro finance banks, including University of Uyo Micro Finance Bank. The suspect had presented a medical report which required authentication by the UUTH management. The Commission wrote two different letters, dated March 11, 2026 and April 20, 2026, to the hospital management to this effect without receiving any response. The Investigating Officer handling the matter took the further step of visiting the hospital to enquire about the status of the request. Still, no response. As a last resort, operatives of the Commission visited the Chief Medical Director of the hospital on Tuesday to make further enquiries, only to be locked in with a false alarm and subjected to unprovoked attack by misguided staff of the facility who pelted them with stones and other dangerous objects. While within the hospital, the CMD reportedly directed that gates of the facility be shut, making it impossible for any lawful enquiry to be made. Police authorities in Akwa Ibom State advised the CMD to open the hospital gates to enable the operatives exit the premises peacefully but the entreaties were turned down. In spite of the hostility and provocation, there was no breakdown of law and order as the operatives exercised restraint and professionally made their ways out of the hospital premises without disrupting its activities. Enquiries bordering on operational engagements of the Commission are lawful. It is therefore necessary to remind the public and corporate bodies that they are obligated to cooperate with the agency in such circumstances. Contrary action could be deemed as obstruction, which is criminal with attendant legal consequences.

Shutdown UUTH indefinitely

🚨 BREAKING: THE THEATRE IS NO LONGER SACRED. TOP SURGEON BRUTALIZED AT UUTH. 🇳🇬 We are receiving horrific reports from the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH). This isn't just a news update; it is a direct assault on the medical profession. This morning, May 12, 2026, armed and masked operatives identified by eyewitnesses as personnel from the EFCC stormed the federal facility in a commando-style raid. They didn't come to arrest a criminal; they came for Professor Eyo Ekpe. Professor Ekpe is a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He is the Deputy CMAC of UUTH. He is one of the few specialists standing between life and death for millions of Nigerians in the South-South. Witnesses say the operatives were ruthless. Staff members who tried to intervene were beaten and threatened with firearms. Imagine being a Professor of Medicine and the Deputy CMAC of a tertiary hospital, only to be dragged out of your office like a common thief. Reports suggest this assault was triggered by a dispute over a medical report for a relative of a high-ranking official. However, the EFCC has yet to issue an official statement explaining the reason for the raid itself, as the entire situation simply does not make sense. We are calling on the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA): How much more can we take? If a Professor of Surgery is not safe in his own hospital, who is? Nigeria is bleeding specialists, and today, the system just cut its own throat. We demand the immediate release of Professor Ekpe and a total apology for this desecration of our health sector. 🩺✊

AKWA IBOM STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS REBUTTAL POLICE NOT INVOLVED IN ALLEGED ASSAULT AT UUTH — ONLINE REPORT FALSE, MISLEADING, AND DISTORTED The Akwa Ibom State Police Command wishes to categorically debunk the false and misleading narrative currently circulating on social media alleging that Policemen invaded the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), assaulted medical personnel, and used force against hospital staff. For the avoidance of doubt, the operation in question was carried out solely by Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the course of a lawful assignment. The Command considers it necessary to clearly state the facts as follows: The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital placed a distress call to the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, reporting the presence of armed men within the hospital premises whose identities could not be immediately ascertained. The CMD further informed the CP that he had directed the closure of the hospital gates as a precautionary measure. Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police promptly deployed Police personnel to the hospital strictly to assess the situation and prevent any possible breakdown of law and order. On arrival, it was professionally confirmed that the Operatives involved were personnel of the EFCC carrying out a lawful operation. The CMD was immediately informed accordingly and advised to reopen the hospital gates to enable the EFCC personnel peacefully exit the premises. However, the advice was reportedly not complied with, thereby escalating tension within the environment. The EFCC Operatives, who were allegedly held within the premises and pelted with stones, eventually forced open the gate in order to exit the hospital premises. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command states unequivocally that at no time did Police personnel participate in the operation, assault any hospital staff, deploy teargas, or engage in any form of brutality as falsely portrayed in the viral reports. The Command strongly condemns the deliberate distortion of facts and the attempt to drag the Nigeria Police Force into an incident it neither initiated nor participated in. Such false narratives are capable of misleading the public, inciting unnecessary tension, and undermining public confidence. Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard the sensational and inaccurate reports linking the Police to the incident, as they are entirely false and devoid of factual basis. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains committed to professionalism, lawful policing, and the protection of lives and property across the State. Signed: DSP Timfon John, LLB, Anipr Police Public Relations Officer For: Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State Command 12/5/2026

Nurses don't flex enough, sha. Visa applied for and sponsored by employers, flight paid, airport to hotel pick up, paid training before officially resuming work, and accommodation paid for months. We don't even call ourselves expats, but we are the real definition of the Nigerian expatriate.

I’m an exceptional global UK talent. That’s equivalent to expatriates in NG. I visited my school for MA enrolment and the enrolment officer said “you’re on a talent visa not student? Wow, we are honoured to have you in our country.” Nothing about me is average by God’s grace.
