As of today - November 15th, 2024, I will no longer be on this platform. I will not deactivate my account to ensure no one else can use my user name. You can find me on IG or BlueSky under the same user name. This is an act of self-care as this platform has become far too toxic.

A cancer I’ve been trying to keep at bay for 12 years. I not there yet but realistically, I will be someday. I need to know I have an option my friends didn't have. tinyurl.com/NYMAIDSignOn

I urge every person reading this to sign & share this letter to the Governor to support giving people the right to choose THIS option. Even if this is something you would never choose, consider people like me who WILL die from cancer.

This 🧵is long but important. I never understood death, what the body goes thru, & how much pain it's possible to feel until I was diagnosed w/ metastatic breast cancer, an incurable cancer.

@LizLife1 It is for terminally ill people like me that have 6 months of less to live. This doesn't apply to people with a mental health issue. Never has and never will. Stop spreading false fear

Still in Shock....S138 has absolutely NO Waiting period. Like many i have worked to stop this and just learned that last night. So NYSEN going for something NO other state dare propose. So depressed people can qualify and recieve the AssustedSuicide Poison in 1 day

A terrific turnout on short notice today! We’re here to stand up for the vulnerable and against #AssistedSuicide. @NYSenate @NYSenateDems @nysenategop

After 10 yrs of advocacy -this important legislation will finally become law in NYS. I hope I never need it HOWTHEFUCKEVER Living w terminal cancer is HARD. I'm the one living with side effects & treatment, so when my options run out, I want this option so I can die peacefully
@UPTOWNGIRL2008@UPTOWNGIRL2008

New Yorkers! Do NOT allow S.138-Hoylman-Sigal/A.136-Paulin to pass the NY Senate! It would reverse NY's historical ban on assisted suicide, and allow physicians to prescribe lethal does of medication to intentionally end a patient's life. CONTACT YOUR NYS SENATOR, NOW! TAKE ACTION: Assisted Suicide Is Still Suicide votervoice.net/Shares/BjWrJA0…

Using that same logic, I would then qualify as well if I stopped treatment b/c I couldn't afford the $15K/month for ONE of my medications & wait for the cancer take over & I have 6 months to live. It's NOT happening - insulin is WAY cheaper & there is financial help available
Jessica Rodgers@JRodMSW

@Stickit2Stage4 In Oregon, diabetes has been listed as a qualifying underlying condition. Under the practical application of the NY law, it would qualify here as well if a patient cannot afford insulin or chooses not to take it.

Diabetics don't run out of options It's also not for anyone else BUT a patients doctor to determine how much time they may have.

Terminal in the law is 6 months or less to live. People with Metastatic Breast cancer, like me, try to call it "chronic" because some of us live longer than the median life span of 18-36 months I was diagnosed Stage 4 from day one in 2013 I will eventually run out of options
Jessica Rodgers@JRodMSW

@Stickit2Stage4 @_rebeccaclewis So just to clarify - it's not a problem that the law meant for terminal conditions is being used for non-terminal conditions?

@JRodMSW @_rebeccaclewis If the woman was able to make her own decisions, was of sound mind & ingest the medication on her own without assistance… What's the issue? Everyone should be afforded autonomous decisions.

@Stickit2Stage4 @_rebeccaclewis Yes- just to clarify, choosing to stop eating a drinking (which you're right! Is different and legal) was used in Oregon as a qualifying condition for a woman with Alzheimer's. The framework that allowed it in OR would allow it NY also.

@JRodMSW @KaitlynnLisa @AmyPaulin This is not Oregon. This is NY Chronic conditions (where you can live to a normal lifespan) do not qualify. Also - most terminal people WANT to live.

@Stickit2Stage4 @KaitlynnLisa @AmyPaulin Yes! Choosing to stop eating and drinking *IS* completely legal. In Oregon, it is also a qualifier to receive lethal drugs from a prescriber for assisted suicide, regardless of underlying condition. I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Sending you all the best!

.@AmyPaulin is currently debating Medical Aid in Dying on the Assembly floor, or medically assisted suicide for terminally ill adults: nystateassembly.granicus.com/player/event/4… Earlier, she shared how she worked on the bill as her sister died from ovarian cancer nearly 10 yrs ago.

@_rebeccaclewis So much misinformation in this debate! In states like Oregon, chronic conditions (and even choosing to stop drinking after an Alzheimer's diagnosis) qualify for lethal drugs from a prescriber.
