#ProjectHailMary (🌟🌟🌟🌟) washed over me. I laughed. I cried. I fucking felt something. There are at least two reasons you should change your weekend plans to see this film in theaters. The first reason is Ryan Gosling. He is impossibly great in this movie. Whatever expectations I had of Gosling going in- he grabbed those expectations by the throat and squeezed. One of Gosling’s best performances in a career filled with amazing films. The second reason is that this film is visually stunning. It doesn’t just deserve to be seen in IMAX- it demands it. The filmmaking carries the day. Following in the footsteps of films like The Martian & Interstellar, Project Hail Mary is an immediately iconic space film. I entered this film knowing nothing about the plot. I think that benefited me. I say that to suggest I won’t spend loads of time on plot here: Gosling is a middle school teacher named Ryland Grace (shades of Half-Nelson!) who is essentially scouted/pouched/picked by Sandra Hüller & other world leaders in a “last-ditch, one-way, suicidal mission” to uncover a solution to stop a bacteria called “astrophage”. The whole idea here is that astrophage is blocking out the sun & draining stars in the galaxy. Grace is basically tasked with finding the one star in the galaxy that isn’t being killed by astrophage & to send some sort of solution back to Earth. As is the case with many of my favorite outer space films, there are definitely portions of the story I didn’t understand or went over my head. But none of that really matters. Similar to Cooper’s plight in Interstellar, the essence of the story is that Grace is being asked to do something bigger than himself: step outside of your own life, walk a higher path, and take a mission that could save millions. Ordinary man is given an extraordinary mission. That is the theme & the heartbeat of this film. But one of the biggest differentiators between Project Hail Mary & other space films I’ve seen is the presence of Rocky- an alien that Grace meets in space and befriends. Rocky & Grace develop a relationship that is just simply outstanding. It’s believable as hell & you grow so emotionally attached to their friendship. I loved the dialogue & banter between the two, I loved all of the early sequences when they tried to learn about one another. It’s an added dimension to the story that makes this film more than just about Grace’s mission. This is about a brotherhood that develops in service of said mission. And that brotherhood is basically Ryan Gosling acting with himself. The emotional range Gosling gives in this film is exceptional. He holds down this entire movie almost entirely without a scene partner. All of his moments with Rocky were basically done without anyone acting alongside Gosling. Yet Gosling still gives such an emotionally powerful performance. It really reminds me of Tom Hanks in Cast Away- it was the biggest comp I could think of the entire time watching this unfold. Only a movie star- yes, I’m going there, I’m using that term, damn it- could do the things Gosling does in this film. Consider how loaded Gosling’s filmography is to this point. Now consider that he just added another great film to that list. What a fucking career. But like I mentioned in my opener, it’s not just Gosling that makes this movie so powerful, it’s the fact that this is a visual masterpiece. I think the screenplay is a little weak here & tries a little too hard to be funny at certain points. I also think the film is a little long. But those issues are totally forgiven by the quality of filmmaking. The colors. The light. Every last sequence shot in actual outer space. The ships- the different stars Gosling comes across. That’s all without mentioning the amazing CGI done to bring Rocky to life. I thought Rocky was part of this film’s visual success. I honestly don’t remember seeing a science fiction film that looked this good in quite some time. I don’t know how this was made or how so many of these sequences in space were captured…but it took my breath away. I don’t care that the Oscars are a year away, I would be shocked if this film didn’t receive Best Cinematography consideration. Project Hail Mary energized me after such a trying week. It was like a shot of adrenaline & inspiration right to my chest. It’s the exact reason why I’m seeing this film a second time this weekend.

Exactly. Even if the politics don't land for you, it still works extremely well as a fun stoner comedy with a diverse cast of characters. It's also an awesome T2-style chase thriller. It works extremely well as a movie; the foundation is rock solid.

One of many things I hate about OBAA discourse is that people reduce it to one aspect they intentionally misinterpret and completely ignore all the funny, wholesome and cool moments. It’s okay to enjoy what is actually in the movie instead of hating it for what isn’t even there.

List of things that Eagles fans are mad at this week: - Jaelan Phillips said that the Panthers’ offer showed they believe in him - Reed Blankenship said the Texans were the first team to make him feel wanted - A.J. Brown said Super Bowl XLII was a game he’ll never forget

Using your current outrage on how people price their books in order to sell your books is campaigning

@tyler_c_world I'm not campaigning on anything And people should be able to charge whatever they want. And people can voice whatever they'd like If you go back to the original post it is aimed around hypocrisy, that was the focus, but of course folks will misinterpret things

@StokesTheWriter @baturner_vc @tyler_c_world it's never going anywhere. Market is gone and he's an untalented cunt with no charisma. Fake comic fan. EVERYONE has figured out what he really is. Jealous of anyone doing better than he. ALL he does is complain. No interaction with his "fans"but a thank you when he suckers them.

@brownandbella queer black people are a significant part of the community, and we’re also part of the community. of blackness. any of those black peoples could’ve been queer, and there’s no “specific gay dance”. we’re part of the community so let’s be PART of the community

Sinners is not and was not about all walks of Black life, tho. No film is so when/why did that even become a thing? Expecting ANY piece of art to reflect “all walks” of any group’s lives is the problem! Like that’s the whole issue, right there. Everybody has to stop projecting!
Bob Pancakes@VelvetLips91

Its weird how every time queer black people ask to be represented in stories that are supposedly about ALL walks of black life, the greater black community acts like they're asking for too much. Its not wrong to ask why there's not a clear queer dance in Sinners.

We still doing the “he’s trolling” thing? It’s time to come to terms with the fact he doesn’t want to be a Philadelphia Eagle anymore, and honestly, I don’t really want him to be either. Juice ain’t worth the squeeze anymore. #FlyEaglesFly

Here’s the list of players from the Eagles last 5 draft classes who were 30 visits: Devonta Smith Quinyon Mitchell Jalen Carter Jordan Davis Nolan Smith Landon Dickerson Cooper DeJean Nakobe Dean Jalyx Hunt Ainias Smith Johnny Wilson Howie SHOULD draft players that are on 30 visits this year. Last year, not a single one of their 10 draft selections was a 30 visit, and ultimately not a single rookie from that class was able to factor in their lone playoff game.

Source: The Philadelphia Eagles will host Penn State iOL Vega Ioane for a 30 visit. One of the premier OL in the class failed to allow a single sack in 2025.

My issue with this argument is that it implies OBAA is only made for (and by) white liberals, and that anyone outside of that strawman who either finds value in the film or contributes to its success is patently wrong to do so. He's reduced it and its audience to a bumper sticker
Fred I. Lee 李志興@fredleept

The OBAA people are really going to the mat for this film rather than just admitting what's perfectly obviousto everyone: this film is tailored made for white liberals.

Let me get this straight A liberal white male movie director and staunch ally of black females Makes a movie, "One Battle After Another", which wins the Oscar for best picture Where the lead female character, is an oversexualized black female revolutionary, with a fetish for white men Who becomes a government informant and snitches on all of her organizational colleagues Resulting in their assassinations and incarcerations While fleeing the country, abandoning her own family & daughter, just for self preservation Congratulations Black feminism has officially arrived on the global big screen
