I’m going to call that the worst Mariners loss of the season. Certainly not the most gut-wrenching, but for a team looking to change the tenor, they were absolutely boat-raced by a bad Giants team, with the same sloppy play that’s plagued them much of the year.

Phil Regan was one of my favorite players as a young Dodgers fan in the 1960s -- and in my first year covering the Mariners, 1985, he was Seattle's pitching coach. A kind man who guided the early careers of some memorable M's pitchers like Langston, Moore and Young. RIP, Vulture.
