@StopEastPark

East Park Energy is a 1800 acre solar power plant proposal, bigger than Gatwick airport. Our Community is standing up to this huge industrial scheme.

This beautiful farmland in Bedfordshire is at risk of turning into a massive solar farm - with 1,900 acres of countryside being plastered with solar panels. The site is larger than 1,000 football pitches. Countryside vandalism.

Just imagine how 700,000 panels would look (enough to reach from North Bedfordshire to Rome if laid end to end). The proposals to cover 1900 acres (6 miles all told, from Hail Weston, Cambs to Swineshead, Beds) of 74% grades 2/3a agricultural land (currently producing enough wheat to make over a million loaves of bread and such year) is nothing short of madness.

“This farm is completely converted into solar panels. A couple of hundred acres of panels here. This is disgusting. So ugly. Such an eyesore. What are they going to do with those {solar) panels when they wear out? Ask yourself that question. The country’s gone mad.”

Local MP Richard Fuller raised serious concerns with the East Park Energy solar and battery complex during a debate in the House of Commons last night. He told Energy Minister Michael Shanks: “The site will be a huge, permanent, unmissable and miles-long change to the local environment. It will not blend in with the existing environment; it will crush it.” Look at the Hansard transcript (link below) to see what he raised on issues ranging from the East Park developer’s track record of “project failure or poor management” to the cumulative impact of a combined six major ‘NSIP’ projects in the area. hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2026-0…

“Nearly a third of England’s mega solar farms are being built on the country’s highest-quality farmland, raising urgent concerns over food security and land use.” It’s time to stop mass scale solar panels being installed on prime farmland. fwi.co.uk/news/call-to-p…

Ed Miliband is ignoring planning recommendations and approving solar farms to meet Net Zero targets despite huge local community concerns. He is putting our energy, farming and economic security at risk with wilful vandalism of the British countryside.

@JamesMelville Insane policy - Bedfordshire is basically one big market garden - the soil there is great for growing. This is one solar bridge too far.

@AlanGinger5 @JamesMelville Stretching six miles from Hail Weston in Cambs to Swineshead in North Bedfordshire. How much more can Beds take? EWR/Luton Airport expansion/Tempsford new town/Universal Studios/A1 and thousands of acres of solar on agricultural land.

“Let’s spend £4.5trillion on net zero over the next 25 years. Let’s ban new oil and gas licences in the North Sea but spaff away £40billion buying North Sea oil and gas from Norway. Let’s buy coking coal shipments from Japan but ban UK coal mining. Let’s plaster thousands of acres of farmland with solar panels but spend £50million on sun dimming experiments. Let’s give Drax an estimated £1.8billlion in taxpayer funded subsidies on top of the £11billion it has already received despite Drax burning an amount of wood equivalent to 300 million trees. Let’s give £1.5 billion of taxpayers’ money this year alone to wind power companies not to generate power from their wind turbines. And let’s spend £30billion of taxpayers’ money on carbon capture machines but put pensioners, farmers and the disabled into financial peril by falsely claiming there’s a £22bn black hole.”

It’s madness to smother these fields with concrete and glass when they should be growing food. This is a fraction of a 1,900 acre site that East Park Energy want to develop. They’re unlikely to be ever farmed again. And for what? Solar produces energy when we least need it, and virtually sod all when we need it most. And many larger sites across the U.K. will likely get the nod from mad @Ed_Miliband
