Charity is a tradition in all cultures, especially those that have Christian ties. Especially-especially around Easter. The premier kicking off the event is symbolic, we all know 1M dollar donation is a symbolical gesture (they fund them in the 10s of Billions). Not only it brings people together around difficult human stories, inspires people to think about others in need, but it also... ... helps to bring out all the miserable cunts, who will attack this as something bad, or stupid.
