This is unacceptable.

Of course, as with any signing this would be a risk. But available on a free transfer, I would suggest this is a risk worth taking for Norwich City.

However, as with every player, it’s not always positive. Brackelmann has missed 18 matches through injury across this season and last season.

I am quite disappointed with how Thorup has set up at Rapid so far. Of course, it is still early days - but it’s become quite Liam Manning, which is something I would never associate with Thorup. He’s switched to a back three and there is no longer an emphasis on possession…

@HCfootball01 But have they been as defensively sound as they should be post-back-three? 2.48xG conceded against Newcastle, 1.94 against Fulham, that’s a lot. I don’t want to dig out young players, but Leny Yoro is one who is clearly struggling. He looked far more comfortable in the three.

@StretchThePress That same group of players went 7 unbeaten after Amorim playing in a four, the issue wasn’t the 3/4 atb, it was tactically.

@HCfootball01 If he goes back to a four in the next three or four games then I don’t think it will be too damaging to the players, squad, results or his reputation but this cannot be something long-term for him.

@HCfootball01 The issue is once you have defenders play in a back three to then go to a four there is a psychological issue. The fullbacks are used to playing as wing-backs and are too high and wide and the centre-backs are also too wide and are reckless, muscle memory tells them there’s cover

@HCfootball01 It’s a big change. When you’re new to a club as well and want players to play a certain way, to suddenly change styles drastically will likely cause confusion amongst the squad and in all honesty I think it is the sign of a weak manager, he has given up fast.

@HCfootball01 I don’t know. I’m not big on when coaches move far away from their philosophy. Perhaps Thorup should’ve been more pragmatic at times with us but going from free-flowing, possession-oriented, dominant football to sitting back with 10 men behind the ball, playing on the counter…

As we saw with Manning, playing like this is not sustainable and unfortunately I think unless Thorup changes many things, he could end up seeing himself sacked from Wien because these wins will turn to defeats very quickly. I hope he reverts back to the 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1.

The result was good against Salzburg, but overall this was a terrible showing. If you are going to have a team which only has 32% possession, the very least you can do is contain the opponent to very little chances but instead Rapid conceded 2.14xG against.
