We're so sorry to hear this. That’s incredibly frustrating, especially after your child was already approved and excited to start. That’s certainly not the experience we want for any family. Please send us a DM with your child’s name, state, and the best contact number, and we’ll help escalate this to the appropriate team right away so someone can follow up directly. Thank you.

We sincerely appreciate the added info! You’re right that the World Geodetic System started in 1960 and that Irene Fischer made important early contributions to geodesy. The post here is not claiming that Gladys West invented GPS or created the original WGS. Her contribution, as recognized by sources like the U.S. Air Force, is that her satellite geodesy and Earth‑shape modeling work was later incorporated into the accuracy framework that GPS relies on. So yes, many people contributed over the decades, including Fischer. West’s work simply represents one of the key pieces that helped modern GPS become as precise as it is today.

@StrideLearn She updated the World Geodetic System as the data improved with advances in the satelite technology, but the World Geodetic System goes back to 1960. Irene Fischer deserves more credit for GPS and the World Geodetic System than does Gladys West: youtube.com/watch?v=L4ZZAp…

Hi there! This is an older post, but Gladys West is definitely still an incredible figure worth celebrating. Just to clarify, the post doesn’t say she invented GPS. The GPS tag is included because her pioneering work in satellite geodesy and her contributions to the mathematical modeling of Earth’s shape were later incorporated into the systems that GPS relies on. Her work was foundational to the accuracy of modern positioning systems, even if she wasn’t the sole creator of GPS itself. Thanks again for engaging—we always appreciate people who care about getting the details right!

Glady's West did not invent GPS, nor did she claim to. She didn't even work on GPS. She worked on the World Geodetic System, which she also didn't invent. The World Geodetic System existed for 15 years before she had anything to do with it. She didn't develop the math for it either. She was one of many people who recalculated the model from the 1972 version to the 1984 version as more accurate data became available with improvements in the technology. The World Geodetic System was first started in 1960. The first version was known as WGS60. As technology improved it was updated several times and continues to be updated. It was updated in 1966 and the second version was known as WGS66. It was updated again in 1972 and the third version was known as WGS72. Glady's West wasn't involved with the updating of the WGS until 1975. She was one of many mathematicians who helped update the model from the 1972 version to the 1984 version as the data for the model got more accurate with the improvement of satelites, electronics, measurement instruments, computers and software. But she didnt invent the systems, the math, the electonics, the computers, the software or the models. She was one of many people who helped recalculated the model with the newer more accurate data as the data became available. Which is fine, but she didn't invent GPS or the World Geodetic System.

@StrideLearn - Way to go, Stride. Your K12 schools were down (again!) for the day. Ever since whoever made the choice to change to .@Canvas_by_Inst from a far superior product, .@D2L, the students have lost what amounts to days of education. Not only that - but Canvas is so inferior to the capabilities .@D2L has with regard to its analytics that allowed both teachers and learning coaches to determine where students need to spend more time if they are struggling, as well as remedial opportunities. I'm sure the change was made because of cost because no one in their right mind would have made the choice based on capabilities. I suppose it was just easier to switch to an inferior product than to negotiate better with the D2L executive team. I can't begin to describe not only my disappointment, but my anger. If you had stayed with D2L that has redundancy, your students would have been learning today!😡

Well apparently @StrideLearn handles user data in the most awful way possible. They have an old address from 6 years ago, I can't change it. They have an email address I haven't used in 7 years, I can't change it. They have my children permanently set to 3rd grade, I can't change it. I can't remove a student who is no longer in school. I can't delete or control my own information (or my children's information) at all. Tried to create a new application, it wouldn't let me change anything. Instantly denied access to an online school bc the information that is locked into the account is a disqualifier.

Good morning, Thank you for your interest in K12! At K12, we offer both fully accredited tuition-free public and tuition-based private options, which vary by grade and location. Please use this link to learn all about K12 help.k12.com/s/article/What… We would be happy to go over these options with you and help determine which option would best fit your student’s individual needs. Would you mind sending us a private message containing your student's grade and zip code in which you reside? This will allow us to send detailed information on the options specific to your area for consideration. Most schools have requirements for students to sign up. If all are met, you should be good to go.. We look forward to hearing from you!
