At the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Mississippi, a dolphin named Kelly amazed researchers with her intelligence after being trained to exchange litter from her pool for fish rewards. Instead of turning in whole pieces of paper at once, Kelly began hiding paper under a rock and tearing off tiny scraps one by one so she could receive more fish each time. But she became even more clever. Kelly reportedly saved one of her fish rewards and used it as bait to attract seagulls onto the water. When a bird landed, she caught it and traded it with trainers for an even bigger reward. Soon, her calf copied the behavior, and other dolphins learned it too. The story became one of the most famous real-life examples of problem solving, planning, and social learning in dolphins.

Yosemite’s Firefall waterfall This is a natural phenomenon at Horsetail Fall, which glows orange during mid to late February when sunlight hits the waterfall just right.

The fact that a woodpecker can strike a tree over 10 times per second without damaging its brain is truly fascinating. The special sponge-like structure between its skull and beak absorbs the shock, creating a nearly perfect protection system. Extraordinary details like these once again show how unique every living creature is.
