Well there are a lot of different theories, but I believe the main reason is because leftist ideology does not allow critism of whoever is considered a minority. So because Islam is mostly associated to Arab people (aka not white people) They are always good to them. It's the same reason they so openly attack Christianity, it's because Christianity is associated with a white people (Even though it is the most diverse religion with millions of non white members). The left are only allowed to look at every situation through the lens of race, so they can't actually think critically about any situation. Every situation they encounter, they react based on one thing, does it make a non white person look bad? Then it should be ignored or attacked. Does it make a white person look bad? Then it is to be supported.

It didn't bother me I politely nodded apologized in Japanese and went on my way and found another spot. There's literally so many different places. Some want to be local only

In Japan, some restaurants serve Japanese customers only. It's their local policy and clearly posted at the entrance. If you went to Japan and saw this, would you be offended? Personally I wouldn't. It's their country, their rules.
