Given all the talk of Prime Ministers and what’s going to happen next I thought it might be time to read again to excellent books by Lord Peter Hennessy #Cabinet #Politics

Appointing a Canon of Westminster or Windsor involves a Writ of Mandamus in addition to the Letters Patent. This use of the Writ may be unique to the Royal Peculiars. The Writ's eschatocol is unusual for an instrument which passes under the Great Seal. 1/2

Are we going to see a Labour MP resignation over the next 24 hours in a last ditch bid to give Andy Burnham a shot at getting back into Parliament before any leadership contest?

@jamessflee When the queen died, I was on a spa day with a friend who is also a journalist and we very much freaked out the nice 18yo trying to take our drinks order by announcing her death to him and other diners

This evening's campaign session with Labour friends on behalf of Richard Banks, our candidate for the Leeds City Council Elections. I've reported fly tipping on land at Gilpin Street to the Council's Cleaner Neighbourhood Team. Andy.parnham@leeds.gov.uk @ArmleyLabour

Being shat on by a seagull as I crossed the line was a very fitting way to complete my 20th marathon in Southampton today! First as a Dad; halfway to 40 🏃‍♂️

Parliament is now paused during prorogation - the formal end of a parliamentary session. It will not sit again until the State Opening on 13 May for the start of a new session.

This could be interesting next week. The wording of this order from Buckingham Palace is that prorogation cannot happen until Wednesday next week, the day of the next Prime Minister's Questions. Will PM Sir Keir Starmer break up Parliament literally hours before PMQs is due to be held? That would be an appalling look and open the PM to claims of avoiding scrutiny. More analysis of a dramatic day in politics at @GBNEWS.

Labour backbenchers have been told prorogation will be on Tuesday. The Order in Council allows prorogation on Wednesday at the earliest. 🧐🧐🧐

Exclusive form @ProducerOllie This is likely to be the last PMQs of the parliamentary session The prime minister is planning to send MPs away next Tuesday, more than a week before the public goes to the polls for the elections on May 7. It won't be back until May 13 Backbenchers have been told to expect the prorogation of parliament to happen next Tuesday evening. Number 10 is said to want to avoid further questions about the appointment of Mandelson before the elections
