TMWFTE WORLD PREMIERE ON THIS DAY IN 1976 “Loving The Alien...” 50 years ago tonight (Thursday, 18th March 1976) an audience of Bowie fans, curious movie goers and contest winners, sat in London’s Leicester Square Theatre for the world premiere of David Bowie’s first major acting role in The Man Who Fell To Earth. With a superb supporting cast and co-stars such as Candy Clark, the Nicolas Roeg directed film is still a remarkable piece of work, with Bowie as the beautifully mysterious Thomas Jerome Newton, an extraterrestrial who comes to Earth with a plan to transport water back to his drought-stricken and dying planet. The Man Who Fell To Earth is based on the 1963 novel of the same name by Walter Tevis, and if you’ve not seen it, you really should check it out. Bowie is magnificent and timeless in this film, not to mention looking absolutely incredible...with and without human disguise. BOWIE’S PETER AND THE WOLF ON YELLOW VINYL NEXT MONTH “Are you sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin...” David Bowie narrates Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf is reissued once again as a numbered limited edition yellow vinyl via Music On Vinyl on 24th April. Originally released in 1978 on the RCA Red Seal label, the music is performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy. Bowie apparently recorded the Prokofiev favourite as a Christmas present for his seven-year-old son, Zowie (AKA film director Duncan Jones).
