Michael Rawlinson, a Swedish undercover intelligence officer inside the EU’s largest rule-of-law mission began investigating corruption at the highest levels. Soon after, he was dead. Years later, the questions refuse to disappear. What really happened to him? Inside EULEX — the European Union’s rule-of-law mission in Kosovo — the official mandate was clear: fight corruption, organised crime, and abuse of power. But what happens when suspicions of corruption begin to surface inside the mission itself? Why were certain investigations suddenly halted? Why were sensitive names never spoken publicly? Why did Rawlinson himself believe something inside the system had gone terribly wrong? One of the voices in this episode is not an outside observer. From inside the mission, Mats Mattsson, former Head of the Executive Division at EULEX, witnessed events that would later raise difficult questions about the mission, its leadership, and the political structures surrounding it. Questions that reach far beyond Kosovo. Questions that today touch the highest levels of European politics — including the office of the former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs. In these times, it's important to understand that despite the rampant corruption and cowardice, there are people out there still trying to make a difference. The fact is, you will never know or hear about the real heroes that operate in the grey, in the silence - working selflessly for defending, protecting, and in many cases taking back our true values. When they fall on the battlefield, there is usually no flag-draped casket, no eulogies detailing their contributions and courage. But perhaps a 21 gun salute in private. For this reason, I want to highlight one of these men who sacrificed his life for truth and justice. Michael Rawlinson, a Swedish military intelligence officer who uncovered serious corruption and mafia links going to the absolute top of the European Union bureaucracy. Rawlinson paid with his life. They are accused of the murder of a racing driver, the attempted murders of a business coach and a trade unionist, aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy, all on behalf of a organised crime network inside the former Athanor Masonic Lodge in the Paris suburb of Puteaux. The case was triggered by a failed contract killing in July 2020, when two members of France’s parachute regiment were arrested in possession of weapons near the home of the business coach Marie-Hélène Dini. They told investigators they believed they had been asked to murder Dini on behalf of the French state, targeting Dini on the grounds that she worked for the Israeli spy agency the Mossad.
