@AynReagan Zelensky made it clear that he's willing to exploit the antisemitism of Europeans (including Ukrainians) for his own benefit and the episode has helped me to see this fight more clearly as a battle between greater and lesser evils and unworthy of my advocacy.

Putin is a Russian czar. Sadistic. Like Ivan the Terrible if Ivan had published cringy photos of himself bare chested on horseback. But I cannot root for Ukrainians even though they are the victims. Because they killed my relatives for being Jewish. And they haven't changed.

You can support Ukraine against evil Russian aggression 100% but also recognize that Israel owes Ukraine nothing. Ukraine has voted against Israel at the UN—alongside its own enemy, Russia—hundreds of times. Why should Israel be a geopolitical sucker?

FDD put out a good list of the sunsets. Note that snapback -- i.e., easy-to-deploy agreed-upon sanctions -- would already have expired, ditto UNSC resolutions that stipulate serious oversight. So it would be harder by this year to even know what's happening. And next year they can deploy large numbers of centrifuges -- while keeping the deal. And in five years, they can enrich to weapons grade -- while still holding to the deal.

This is probably wrong. Almost every meaningful restriction of the Iran deal would have "sunset" by now, so the war would probably have happened anyway. Yes, kids, under the terms of the deal, limits on ballistic missile development, limits on numbers of centrifuges, on advanced centrifuge R&D, on nuclear-related imports and lots, lots more, including UN oversight itself that ensured that what remained would be adhered too -- would all have been lifted by now. The deal wasn't stopping anything. It was arming Iran to the teeth conventionally and kicking the nuclear can down the road.
Ben Rhodes@brhodes

Iran Deal put a lid on the nuclear program. It's loudest opponents in Israel and US needed to kill it bc they needed Iran to have an active program to justify war.

@havivrettiggur Great viz btw. So i’m Iran, untrustworthy and arguably evil. I might have thought it a gift from The Clown to rip up this deal ( as flawed as it may have been after many years of intense negotiations) a full 8 years before the meaningful s/sets kicked in. 1/

@ZiaYusufUK @AdaliWarsame @JMilei People also used to say that India, N. America, Malaysia, and even Somaliland and East Africa was “British,” and one day it will seem no less absurd to suggest that the Malvinas are British. States have no rights - only people do - so UK has no right to possess the Malvinas.

@RobertiLax @brhodes Obama initiated the JCPOA ...so if it wasn't working why bother ripping it up with no replacement. The Clown out you in danger by giving g iran agency. If you don't see this then why argue...feel free to have the last word

@Styopa1 @brhodes Looks like it wasn’t remotely unchecked. Iran spent $1 Trillion of its people’s money on an apocalyptic religious vision that’s lead to disaster, so yes I would expect rational leaders to do better.

@RobertiLax @brhodes For a second i thought you meant the united states...but by giving this irrational apocalyptic Iran free agency to do what they did unchecked is The Clowns fault and if you voted for him you too are at fault. well done

@RobertiLax @brhodes Iran not only has agency it was able to act unchecked for 8 years. With such agency Why are you surprised they do what they did?

@Styopa1 @brhodes It’s funny how Iran has no agency and it’s Trump’s fault that Iran lied about its nuclear ambitions, continued after they were discovered, promised to use their nukes, continued to develop their ICBMs, and Trump forced them to do all of that.

@RobertiLax @brhodes The alleged bad deal was ripped up in 2017 not replaced with a good deal. 8 years of unchecked freedom to create deadly enriched uranium. It's really that simple

@Styopa1 @brhodes Why aren’t in fantasy land and your desire to “improve” a bad deal doesn’t make it possible or more desirable than putting them to their proofs and stopping them once and for all. If your assumptions were wrong you would have paid no price.

@Styopa1 @brhodes Rhetorical but not in a way helpful to your argument because the deal would have sunset in any case and Iran would certainly have enriched uranium, nuclear weapons, and the missiles to deliver it in 2026. One either thinks that would have been a good result - like Rhodes- or not.

@RobertiLax @brhodes trump killed deal in 2017 without replacing or strengthening . 8 years before it would have sunset. during that time how much enriched uranium was created? it's a rhetorical question

@brhodes If Trump hadn't cancelled the JCPOA, and even if the Mullahs had not been cheating, it would have sunset in 2025 and Iran would likely now have a nuclear tip missile that could reach as far as London. That's a success only if you want Iran to have that leverage over the world.
