Cricket has lost a great servant with the death of Ian Shields. For years he was a mighty volunteer at Ormond CC (premiership player, president, secretary, treasurer) and @SubbiesCricket, and when he moved to Castlemaine he got busy with the cricket and golf clubs. Wonderful man.

And a boost for @SubbiesCricket club Malvern. The Roosters have locked in former St Kilda CC wicketkeeper-batsman Lewis English, who played 28 First XI matches in Premier Cricket. Some good players heading for the VSDCA in 2026-27.

International Scott Edwards returning to @SubbiesCricket club Balwyn next season. The Tigers have also picked up a trio of Camberwell Magpies in Charlie Simondson, Simon Greene (returning) and James Jarrett. That's a tidy off-season. 🐯

Nice boost for @SubbiesCricket mainstay Malvern, signing former Kingston Hawthorn and Fitzroy-Doncaster paceman Harrison Goad. He's in good nick: he ran the Gold Coast 10km event last weekend.

Dean Russ won the 2021-22 Ryder Medal in @vicpremcricket. And last night he won the Val Holten Medal in @SubbiesCricket, in a tie with another mainstay of Victorian club cricket, Glen Parker. Previous winners Sahan Perera and Jacob Thorne were equal second.
