Reviewing his glorious recital in Dortmund the local paper WAZ called @PlacidoDomingo a phenomenon. Those present at the Konzerthaus can certainly vouch for that. Imposing and gentle at the same time, the 85-year-old Spaniard roared, commanded, pleaded and flirted, his vocal prowess sustained throughout the long performance with six encores. From Verdi's "Macbeth" and "Il Trovatore" with the stunning soprano Guanqun Yu to zarzuela and sentimental Neapolitan and Broadway songs, the public clapped their hands raw and gave Domingo as much love back as he himself promised them in his Lehár operetta song "You are my heart's delight". I challenge you to find another opera star who can still fill concert halls to the brim and sing his heart out quite like our "King of Opera". Below is a taste of last night. Viva Domingo!
On #WorldTheatreDay, we're celebrating some of the notable actors and playwrights buried or remembered here in Westminster Abbey. We're beginning with perhaps the most famous writer commemorated in Poets' Corner: William Shakespeare.
While it may be no surprise to find that our greatest playwright has a memorial here, it's often forgotten that it was only thanks to the campaigning work of a group of well-connected women, informally known as the Shakespeare Ladies Club, that his statue came to be dedicated in the Abbey.
Together, they encouraged revivals of Shakespeare's plays on the London stage, and held two benefit performances at the Drury Lane and Covent Garden theatres specifically to raise money for the Abbey memorial, which was dedicated in 1741.
While in Paris, Brâncuși, apprentice of sculptor Auguste Rodin, on March 27, 1907, decided to leave his studio, uttering the famous words:
"Under the shadow of an oak tree nothing can grow but grass."
That year, #Brancuși abandoned traditional modeling, working directly in stone.

Nous eûmes plus de charmes que jamais les fées. »
