In partnernship with LightHouse International and CBM-Kenya we travelled to Mwatate to conduct a Basic Mental Health Skills Training for Community Health Assistants (CHAs) at Danida Hall. The training aimed to equip CHAs with practical mental health skills to support patients with various health concerns in the community. The session focused on improving communication, understanding patients emotional and psychological needs and providing appropriate initial support when interacting with individuals facing different health challenges. The training also emphasized empathy, active listening, and appropriate referral scenarios to ensure patients receive the care and support they need. The overall goal was to strengthen the capacity of CHAs to handle patients effectively and provide holistic community-based care. #MentalHealthAwareness #CHVs #disabilityinclusion

Through their dedication, advocacy, and leadership, they have helped amplify the voices of Persons with Disabilities and promote meaningful participation in decision-making processes at the community level. Implemented by NONDO with support from CBM Global, the Action 4 Change Project has strengthened local advocacy efforts and contributed to building more inclusive communities where persons with disabilities can participate fully in development. Conversations today focused on the PBO Act , unpacking what it means for #OPDs, why it matters for civic space, the benefits it offers, and the practical realities of transition and compliance. Through interactive awareness sessions led by @PBO_RA and @cff_kenya, and supported by our partners @CBM_Global_KE, OPDs engaged, asked critical questions, and strengthened their understanding to support informed, disability-led advocacy and civic space

Did you know how Reto was born?
Reto was formed in November 2023 after a community dialogue in Ewauso Kendog that brought together persons with disabilities , care givers and community leaders. Inspired by education on their rights, the care givers decided to come together and form the Reto Disability Self Help Group. They began with small contributions -sometimes from selling just a cup of milk and through their dedication, they started beadwork, each member contributing their skills and creativity. Over time, their savings grew, enabling them to buy their first goat. Through NONDO’s capital boost of Ksh 35,000 in the first disbursement, the group has now purchased four more goats, marking an important step in their journey toward economic empowerment and inclusion.#Action4change

Mosiro Disability Self-Help Group
When the Action for Change Project began in Kajiado West three years ago, Mosiro was one of the areas that had been left behind.
Today, during our joint monitoring visit, NONDO is proud to witness the remarkable transformation taking place. The community is now more informed, more engaged, and the Mosiro Disability Self-Help Group continues to thrive. 💪🏽 Through the capital boost of KSh 50,000, the group has acquired 8 goats and 1 sheep, marking a tangible step toward sustainable livelihoods. This progress is a clear reflection of the power of partnership, continuous engagement, and community-driven change.#Action4change

As we reflect on this quarter’s work plan, we also took the opportunity to review the progress of OPD groups that received the first disbursement of the capital boost. We are pleased to report that all the groups have utilized the funds appropriately: Matonyok Disabled Self Help Group received Ksh 40,000 and purchased 6 goats and medicine. Reto Disabled Self Help Group received Ksh 35,000 and bought 5 goats, medicine, and salt. Eduata Kitet received Ksh 50,000 and purchased 7 goats. Mosiro Disability Self Help Group received Ksh 20,000, bought 3 goats, and topped up from their group contributions to buy an additional goat. Naitawang received Ksh 40,000 and purchased 6 goats. A few groups have also received their second disbursement to continue strengthening their income-generating activities. #Actionforchange #Desertwheelrace

At the Youth Devolution Festival, our Action for Change (A4C) Champions 🌟 showcased their livelihood initiatives, highlighting how vibrant OPDs 💪 are driving inclusion and innovation at the grassroots. We were honored to have the Governor of Kajiado visit their booth and witness firsthand the crucial work being done to promote sustainable livelihoods & disability-inclusive development. Through A4C, we continue strengthening OPDs as powerful drivers of change—ensuring disability inclusion and sustainability remain at the heart of devolution . This week we are with @lighthouse_eye hospital in Voi with Taita Taveta county eye health team & other stakeholders reviewing the ReACH All project. We @CBM_Global value feedback from partners & participants on whether our projects are relevant & how to improve them.

The Action for Change project has so far been successfully implemented with the support of the Kajiado County Government. As part of our sustainability plan, we held a two-hour discussion with the county leadership. We also discussed the ongoing plans for the county to host this year’s Desert Wheel Race (DWR), and H.E. Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has given the go-ahead for the race to be hosted in Kajiado. By strengthening relationships during the implementation of Action for Change, we are confident that the DWR will be successfully hosted in Kajiado County.#Action4change

NONDO warmly congratulates Christine Sein, our Action for Change Champion from Iloodokilani, on successfully completing and graduating from the BBC Future Voices program. Before joining BBC Future Voices, Sein had undergone participatory storytelling training organized by NONDO and supported by CBM UK, where she learned how to tell compelling stories through photos. Over the past four months, she has dedicated herself to honing her communication and storytelling skills, equipping her to amplify the voices and stories of her community. We are proud of you Christine and can’t wait to see the positive impact you will continue to make!

The Kenya Red Cross is proud to have participated in the official national launch of the Persons with Disability Policy, a landmark milestone 19 years in the making. The policy addresses 26 key thematic areas vital to promoting inclusion, accessibility and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. We commit to mainstreaming this policy and creating public awareness through our community structures. Kudos to @SocialProtectKe, @NCPWDS, @CBM_Global_KE and Motivation Charitable Trust for the collaboration and leadership in making this a reality.

What began as a simple village savings and loans group in Chesikaki, Bungoma is now powering climate-smart change. The Imani Inuka Widows Group, 20 women strong, received seed capital through the Promoting Inclusive Climate Change and Resilience Project in Bungoma, implemented by Kenya Red Cross with support from @CBM_Global, @CBM_Global_KE and @CBMAustralia. With the funds, they bought a briquette machine to produce eco-friendly charcoal using coffee husks, molasses and clay, creating green energy, earning income and securing a better future for their families.
