How else could they sell divorce to women if they didn’t frame ordinary marital conflicts as abuse? What frustrates me is that you can do many things right and still be labeled an abuser over disagreements or mistakes. Modern women have stretch the definition of abuse so broadly that almost any conflict can be interpreted that way, and once that label is applied, the marriage is often treated as beyond saving. For example, if you choose to be careful with money, you might be accused of FINANCIAL ABUSE If you dismiss your spouse’s feelings because you’re stressed or not in the mood to talk, it can be called EMOTIONAL ABUSE If you make an insensitive joke about her weight, it may be described as body shaming or emotional abuse. If she hits you and you hit back in self-defense, some women will still focus only on your actions and label you the abuser. My concern is that the word “abuse” is being used to describe behavior that ranges from poor communication and immaturity to genuinely dangerous conduct. When everything is called abuse, it becomes harder to distinguish between unhealthy relationship habits that can be worked on and serious abuse that requires leaving the relationship.
