Fernando Mendoza, winner of this year’s Heisman Trophy and the quarterback for the 2026 national champions, the Indiana Hoosiers, announced his eligibility for the 2026 NFL Draft Friday morning, telling CBS Mornings that he’s ready to put in the work to go pro: “It requires such a new skill set.” Mendoza shares how his family has supported him every step of the way — including with “at least 15 family members at every game” — and why there were so many emotions at the NCAA Championship game.

Put the CFP to the side this was a special day for @IndianaFootball and their fans. Had so many of their fans come up to me in tears thinking they’d never live long enough to see the Hoosiers play in Pasadena. So many made the trip and for their team to play the way they did and keep this dream alive was so incredible to witness. Congratulations to ALL Hoosiers and good luck the rest of the way! Special day-grateful I was there to witness it.
