@yalla_behirot @nepodstatne_ It was in a mainstream newspaper. Though of course it never said exactly what Hakunofuji was doing with the woman. The Japanese term used can be anything from a drunken "Hello cutie, what's your insta?" to downright groping...

@DisputedCDV This is the million dollar question, of course. The article definitely says he brandished or raised it, not that it hit. Then there's Nishikifuji's answer to the press question "were you a witness to violence": "I guess you can say that". Maybe he tried to hit and HNF dodged? 🤷

@SumoFollower What does “brandish” mean in this sense? That word makes it seems like he threatened to hit him with a sake bottle, but the self report was for violence so he had to have done something with it, right?

More details coming out in the Isegahama scandal. Apparently it happened in a drinking party with supporters, just before moving to Osaka. Isegahama got angry at Hakunofuji for something unrelated to sumo, and brandished a sake bottle at him. [1/2] chunichi.co.jp/article/1215567

@zrahul2020 I don't insist on anything. I was just saying the statement was not accurate. It's a religious ritual and a combat sport. Never mix "religious" with "serene", and I think "spiritual" is also not always connected to religious actions (think crusades, Daesh, etc.)

@SumoFollower If you insist that Sumo was never a spiritual experience to its participants, I am fine with it.

@Josheye @Politic56721677 That's always the case. If he wins the title, he will get the promotion, even if he wins it by 15 fusensho. If he doesn't, he needs a strong (and almost certainly exclusive) jun-yusho.
