Have you seen the people chanting in Rome, in London, in Paris, in Amsterdam, in Rotterdam, saying that we are the bad ones, saying that they are defending Palestinians, but in fact they are supporting the Islamic terrorist group Hamas. Khamenei’s official position is clear that the eradication of Israel is the actual goal, not just supporting Palestinians. That will not happen. All that actually happens, decade after decade, is a never-ending cycle of violence and vengeance. Stoking the fires of hatred isn’t working. Perhaps it is time to consider something else.

Here is the background and recap of the live broadcast on Artificial Intelligence Safety hosted by @elonmusk and Israeli Prime Minister @netanyahu (commonly known as ‘Bibi’). The Live conversation is divided into two parts, first just one-on-one with Elon and Bibi. Why is Elon having this conversation with Elon? First, Bibi was scheduled to come for a US visit already to meet with US President Joe Biden, as always, the Prime Minister of Israel meets with tech leaders and local Jewish communities when traveling abroad. But there is more than that, and that is because Bibi is the national leader who understands technology and is also a classical liberal, similar to Elon. Bibi says in the conversation he has read the Federalist Papers twice. Bibi has been instrumental in liberalizing Israel’s economy and developing Israel’s free market economy. I remember many years ago when I attended CyberTech Tel Aviv, Bibi said “Cybersecurity will be one of the top 5 industries, and Israel will be one of the top 5 countries leading cybersecurity.” Israel now leads the world in cybersecurity startups with a population of only 9 million, second to only America. The same is true now for AI. Israel accounts for about 0.1% of the world's population and is leading the world in AI development. Israel now dominates in investment in AI than any other country on a per capita basis, and is a leader outright. One-On-One: Elon Musk and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu The one-on-one opens with a joke from Bibi that the conversation is not real and is a deep-fake, and he compliments his host, Elon comments they have spoken about technology and AI with Bibi many times before. You can tell that they are very familiar with each other already. Elon goes into the challenges and fears of AI, and will people control AI or will AI control people? Bibi believes that we need good AI regulation so we do not have what he calls “MAC: Mutually Assured Chaos”. But they go on to how we fight evil governments who will use AI as a weapon against free nations. They discuss that you need a lot of capital, the data centers for AI are massive, and you can see infrared cameras from space to see who is doing AI at a government or military scale. If any private citizen would know this, it would be Elon. Bibi says, like developing nuclear weapons, there are two aspects of developing the technical aspects of robust AI nationally: very few brilliant AI engineer experts in one room and hardware that develop serious AI weapons. (Bibi hints at the importance of the scientists nationally for the development of AI as weapons and how Israel has historically targeted Iranian nuclear scientists). They pivot to free speech and Antisemitism. Talking about the importance of people trusting their media sources, and free speech is important to not just freedom but imperative to fighting antisemitism. I have personally seen multiple times that Community Notes on @X has done a great job at fighting antisemitism and libels against the Jewish people. Bibi praised and blessed Elon to continue fighting antisemitism while maximizing free speech, expression, and thought. Elon goes into the importance of X Premium and mentions they are coming out with a cheaper Premium offering, and that it is necessary to fight bots, many of which are used to spread Antisemitism and bigotry. Bibi goes into the importance of Israel becoming an AI leader, which is why he said he had to meet with Elon to make that difference and push Israel, Elon’s mission, and freedom forward. He goes on to joke about how Bibi’s father used to write encyclopedias and implies that Wikipedia and online trusted sources are not trustworthy. Elon ends with him growing up in a Jewish Day School in South Africa and he can sing Hava Nagila. (I imagine it is a matter of time before this video surfaces) AI SAFETY ROUNDTABLE Greg Brockman (@gdb), president & co-founder of OpenAI and Max Tegmark (@egmark) who leads AI research at MIT (where Bibi Netanyahu studied). Bibi starts by praising Max’s book and recommends everyone read it. Elon dives into that AI is intended to help the universe, and it has a potentially bad outcome, just like Albert Einstein and nuclear technology. Nukes can now be used for evil, and we want to prevent AI from having that capability. Bibi says that Israel has the leading AI engineering talent globally, and wonders with all the jobs AI is creating in Israel, that what jobs and how many jobs will AI replace. Greg and Bibi go back and forth on the changing employment landscape and what will ‘work mean’ in the future. Bibi goes deep on monopolies and competition, and he worries about the concentration of wealth from the AI Tech Companies, and will the elite in AI become wealthy at the expense of regular people. He cites that tech companies will do what Peter Thiel said, and AI companies will try to make monopolies and imply that AI giants may use regulation to box smaller AI players out. Greg and Bibi continue to spar about whether AI can promote truth, how we know what is truth or not, and how will AI play a role in promoting truth. Bibi mentions that Israel will roll out a national policy on AI in the coming months, being the first country to do so. He continues to discuss the bigger difference between classes of the ‘haves and have-nots’ with the development of AI and how it can undermine free nations. Greg talks about Israeli engineers and how Israeli engineers are the leading engineers at OpenAI. (Sam Alman is Jewish and recently visited Israel for AI investments, and OpenAI’s co-founder Ilya Sutskever is Israeli who grew up in Jerusalem and studied at Israel’s Open University.) Elon goes into the theory that if AI can bring us heaven on Earth, meaning AI can do everything better than any person can. Do we live a life of meaning? He mentions Holocaust and Nazi Death Camp survivor Victor Frankl’s book Man’s Search For Meaning; with fewer jobs and AI being so helpful, will we lack meaning and not actually approach heaven on earth, rather it can make us very unhappy. Max wonders if evolution will take control of itself and if AI will end up controlling humans because naturally AI will be led by companies and militaries alike. So Max says will the future be about people or will it be AI vs. AI - in both business competition and in global war. Bibi and Max talk about them being speciesist, and that we should care about humans more than AI and technology. AI and technology are here to serve people, not the other way around. Max and Greg discuss how the AI revolution can be a threat. Elon chimes in that @Neuralink + AI can be a threat, technically. Elon’s goal is to improve human happiness using AI and the limitation to AI is bandwidth. So we should improve the bandwidth between what humans want and how AI can help humanity. Max, Elon, and Bibi discuss that how we are smarter than other living beings like trees, so too can AI do that to humans. Max discusses that in Israel there are many shared values, if you do not share values, you will have an unstable society, and we need those for shared values for humanity and AI. AI Regulation Max says Israel has good regulation and the world needs it too led by the leading AI engineers to help make good regulations to keep people safe. The goal is to promote human agency and make the future as bright as possible using AI and technology. Technology is not a zero-sum game, and this is true for AI in particular, so humanity has an unlimited upside. Bibi asks Elon about his meetings in the US Senate about AI regulation. Elon shares basically what I wrote above but talks a lot about good regulation and not falling into regulatory capture, which will be counterproductive. Elon says that in his conversation with China, they also are interested in limiting AI for private companies (personally, I am skeptical). Elon says that we need a referee to make sure we are all doing things fairly and that helps humanity. He addressed that what if the West regulates AI and China leaps ahead? Elon does not seem worried, my assumption is that he thinks that governments and militaries will not slow down their AI advancement. Greg goes into the hardest part of developing AI and regulating AI understanding and executing the nuance in AI. Bibi says to Greg that we cannot pause AI developments and we should start with good regulation. Bibi elaborates that Israel is very small, but punches way above its weight in AI (9.5 million people and smaller than New Jersey). He goes on to discuss ethical AI and that first Western countries should come up with regulation that is fair, good for humanity, and will not slow down the advancement of tech, then we should get the rest of the world on board. Greg confirms that we should maximize velocity towards the future. He says that AI gets good feedback from the market, and people push back when AI gets it wrong. He says the biggest divergence is based on privacy, we want everyone’s information but do not want to share our personal information. So governments (I believe he is implying the European Union) that you can have your data deleted will slow down the development of AI, so it is important that you should have good regulations created in partnerships with national governments in the interest of individuals. Bibi ends with an invitation for AI experts to come to @Israel and learn about AI, the startup scene, and Israel’s positive regulation. He said we need to start with like-minded pro-tech states, come to agreements, and grow from there. Elon concludes about how the brain works, and how AI will want to make us happy and give us joy, he uses sex and sexual pleasure as an example.
