Women play a central role in global food systems, yet their economic potential remains underutilized. Closing the gender gap in productivity could add nearly US$1 trillion to global GDP. In #Türkiye, where women make up only a third of the workforce, IFAD and the government have partnered to invest over US$25 million in strengthening rural economies. Through the GTWDP project, over 1,200 matching grants have supported the purchase of labour-saving machinery – increasing incomes by up to 30%. The project has already reached more than 100,000 rural people, half of them women, with participants reporting greater economic independence, reduced workloads and improved well-being.
