RT. HON. BARR. SUNDAY CYRIACUS UMEHA FELCITATES CONSTITUENTS AND NIGERIA CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY, AT EASTER 5th April, 2026 On behalf of myself and my family, I wish to felicitate the Good People of Ezeagu-Udi Federal Constituency, in particular and the Nigerian Christian Community, in general on the occasion of the Feast of Easter. This season which we commemorate today, starting from the memorable events of Good Friday, represents arguably the most consequential event in all of history. Chris's crucifixion, death on the cross and resurrection is a foundation of the Christian faith. By triumphing over death, God Almighty distinguished His only Begotten Son from the rest of humanity and guaranteed the eternal hope and promise of Christianity. Through his death and resurrection, we're assured of the presence of light at every tunnel through the virtues of hope, sacrifice and perseverance. As we rejoice in the glory of His resurrection at this Easter, I urge all of us to rededicate ourselves to Christ's legacy and to use this moment as a springboard of our Christian faith, through prayer and fasting and imitation of the stellar examples of Christ's life on earth. Once again, I wish us a Happy and Reflective Easter. Signed: Rt. Hon. Barr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha Member Representing Ezeagu-Udi Federal Constituency & Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Justice.

Similarly, Eze Kingsley Okeke of Awgu Kingdom described culture as a healing force and a natural expression of identity through music, dance, dress, and shared values. He noted that seeing young Nigerians from different backgrounds united in harmony always renews his hope for the nation’s future. He encouraged corps members to sustain this spirit of unity beyond camp and assured them of Enugu State’s peaceful and hospitable environment. Representing the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Barrister Peter Mbah, the Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Yomi Jaiye, charged corps members to remain disciplined, value-driven, and purposeful throughout their service year. He urged them to “stay hungry, stay humble, stay healthy, stay human, be giving, and remain grateful,” stressing the importance of good character, integrity, and responsible citizenship. A major highlight of the carnival was the electrifying performance by the Igede Obinagu Cultural Troupe, sponsored by the Chairman of Udi Local Government Area, Mayor Ogbonnaya Agu. Their energetic and colourful display captivated the audience, drawing loud applause and admiration from dignitaries, camp officials, and corps members alike. Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of Rt. Hon. Dr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha, his representative, Hon. Prince Obinna Ozor Ejike expressed heartfelt gratitude to the NYSC State Coordinator, royal fathers, and distinguished guests for their support and cooperation. He conveyed the Honourable Member’s sincere apologies for his absence, explaining that he was unavoidably engaged in an official national assignment in Abuja. He warmly welcomed corps members to Enugu State, assured them of continued support, and encouraged them to make the most of their service year. He announced that Hon. Umeha not only sponsored the entire cultural carnival but also provided generous cash prizes for outstanding performances, thereby adding excitement, motivation, and lasting memories to the event. The Chief Judge of the carnival, Mrs. Chioma Ilechukwu, explained that performances were assessed based on unity, creativity, organisation, time management, and authenticity of traditional attire. Awards were presented to platoons that excelled in these areas. Ten platoons participated, each showcasing distinct Nigerian cultures, including Benin, Nupe, Igbo, Fulani, Yoruba, Hausa, Tiv, Ibibio, Efik, and Ijaw. At the end of the keenly contested competition, Platoon Seven emerged overall winner with an outstanding presentation of Igbo culture, receiving ₦100,000. Platoon Two came first runner-up with an impressive Ijaw cultural display, earning ₦80,000, while Platoon Eight secured second runner-up with a vibrant Fulani representation, winning ₦60,000. Additional awards were presented to other platoons for excellence in creativity, organisation, costume, cuisine, dance, and time management, with each platoon receiving ₦50,000. All prizes were generously sponsored by Rt. Hon. Dr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha, who also appreciated camp officials with a ₦200,000 cash donation in recognition of their dedication and service. The 2026 Batch A Stream I Cultural Carnival at the Udi Orientation Camp was a resounding success, adding colour, excitement, and meaning to the orientation exercise. Through food, music, dance, and storytelling, corps members demonstrated that Nigeria’s greatest strength lies in the harmony of its diversity. The event, proudly sponsored by Rt. Hon. Dr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha reaffirmed culture as a powerful tool for unity, integration, and national development.

In her welcome address, Mrs. Awolola warmly received the royal fathers, dignitaries, and guests, expressing deep appreciation for their presence and continued support. She described the carnival as a living symbol of national integration, noting with pride that corps members from different ethnic backgrounds appeared indistinguishable as they confidently adorned themselves in diverse traditional attires. She explained that the platoons were deliberately assigned cultures outside their regions of origin to promote cross-cultural understanding, mutual respect, and national cohesion. Mrs. Awolola then paid special tribute to Rt. Hon. Dr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha, describing him as a dependable friend of the NYSC scheme in Enugu State who consistently identifies with corps members and supports their welfare and development. According to her, Hon. Umeha’s sponsorship of the cultural carnival and his provision of tangible financial prizes showed not only his commitment to youth development but also his strong belief in the power of culture to unite Nigerians. She commended him for always standing with the NYSC family in Enugu State and encouraged corps members to reciprocate such goodwill with discipline, excellence, and selfless service. In his remarks, Igwe Dr. Sam O. Aneke expressed deep satisfaction with the quality and authenticity of the cultural presentations, describing them as a true reflection of the ideals and values of the NYSC scheme. He commended the State Coordinator for her exemplary leadership and dedication while also appreciating Hon. Umeha for his unwavering support of youth and national unity.

RT. HON. BARR. SUNDAY CYRIACUS UMEHA CALLS FOR CALM AMIDST THE CONVICTION OF MAZI NNAMDI KANU, ASSURES NDIGBO OF CONSTRUCTIVE ENGAGEMENT TOWARDS A POLITICAL SOLUTION. For Immediate Release 25th November, 2025 Like many Nigerians, and Ndi Igbo in particular, I have followed with great concern the reactions that have trailed the conviction and sentence of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu- Leader of the Indeginious People of Biafra (IPOB) by a Federal High Court presided over by Hon. Justice James Omotosho, last Thursday, 20th November, 2025. As a lawyer and Igbo Man, I followed the proceedings that eventually culminated in the Judgement last Thursday. Let me state unequivocally that, as a member of the legal profession and Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Justice, it is incumbent on me to underscore that irrespective of the misgivings one may have against the judgment, it must be respected as the verdict of a Court of competent jurisdiction. This is without prejudice, however, to the right of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to appeal the decision to the next level of judicial inquiry. It is thus gratifying that steps are being taken to approach the Court of Appeal for a judicial review. This is the only lawful and constitutional means to address legitimate grievances with the verdict of a lower Court. The Nnamdi-Kanu Question as I often call it, is not one whose answer can be found in the arid legalism of adjudication. I have always held the view that it is a specie of social crisis most suitable to a resolution through the weapons of social advocacy, namely, dialogue, compromise and justice. At the face level, Nnamdi Kanu'a agitations before it assumed criminal dimensions, resonated and still resonates deeply with the age-long feelings of marginalization by the Igbo within Nigeria, a situation that had led to years of exclusionary policies which have aggregated to retrogress the growth and development of the South East, and the Igbo at large. It should not be surprising therefore, that it won many converts and drew sympathies from the Igbo; both at home and in the Diaspora. Whilst this analysis is not in anyway intended to justify the mass killings and destruction of lives and properties allegedly attributed to the IPOB group and their ESN-wing, it is nonetheless necessary to situate the crisis at its sociological level to frame the thrust of this intervention. Against this backdrop therefore, I want to reiterate my advocacy over the years for a politically negotiated resolution of the Nnamdi-Kanu Question through dialogue, compromise and concession as that appears to me, the only way to resolve the crisis in a manner that restores the South East to its now disappearing heritage of peace and communal living. It goes without saying that, this move, must be championed by Igbo Leaders and in this regard, I take encouragement in the steps being taken by the South East Caucus of the 10th National Assembly, as well as other stakeholders of the Igbo Nation, to open a window of discussion with the Federal Government towards a potential presidential pardon for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on terms that will be a win-win for all the parties concerned. Let me be clear that this option must be seen, not just as a gesture of peace, but one that must be considered in the larger interest of National security; which is the raison de etere of government. And I am hopeful that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration might see it too, as an act which would come to be seen in the future as a moment of significant importance in our March through Nationhood. In the meantime, I want to appeal to The Igbo and to the friends and families of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to remain peaceful, calm and law abiding in line with the characteristic spirit and comportment of our people, whilst steps are being explored, both within and outside the Court Room, to bring about an outcome that best reflects the South East and Nigeria of our shared aspiration. -SU

My Dear Constituents and Fellow Nigerians, Today marks the 65th Anniversary of our Independence. It is a significant moment in the growing history of our country and one that naturally calls for reflection. At Independence, the promise of our then young Nation loomed large and it seemed we were going to take over the world and champion the cause of the Black Race. Through a series of political misadventures, we found ourselves in the battle ground fighting a civil war that dared to stillbirth our young nation but for the grace of God. We would end up in a cycle of military rule that postponed the promise of democracy and cast a dark pall over our Nation. But a new lease of life arrived in 1999 as democratic rule was re-installed. It has so far been 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule. Through it all, the challenge of leadership remains. Rising insecurity, economic stagnation, rising poverty and a general cost-of-living crisis, decrepit public infrastructure, to keep the list short, continues to prove insurmountable. But we have also had our fair share of wins. Our tech and entertainment industry continues to grow, creating jobs and limitless opportunities for thousands of young people. The world has beaten a path to consume our Afro Music, our fashion industry remains subject of global attention and from sports, to trade, commerce and industry we have proven to be a force to reckon with. Under the incumbent presidency of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR we are witnessing great efforts in the recalibration of our economy to usher in a future of prosperity and abundance; which interventions are beginning to yield results as have been globally acknowledged by critical global institutions. Yet, a lot of work remains to be done. As we mark this anniversary of our independence, may we sieze this moment to soberly reflect on our past, and as citizens dare to contribute our quota, in our respective corners to midwife the nation of our collective aspirations. If there is one thing we have learnt, it is that Nation Building is an endless task. Happy Independence Day. Rt. Hon. Barr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha Member Representing Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency and Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Justice.

Rt. Hon. Barr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha Commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allocating $3 Billion to Eastern Rail line Reconstruction, describes the gesture as a promise kept. 28th July, 2025 Rt. Hon. Barr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha, Member Representing Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has showered plaudits on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the allocation of $3 Billion towards the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Eastern Rail line in a historic move that would potentially enhance the infrastructural overlay of the South East. This follows the the Senate’s approval, last Tuesday, of the President’s $21 billion foreign loan request, with $3 billion earmarked for reviving the Eastern Corridor stretching from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri — a long-standing demand by stakeholders from the region. Umeha described the gesture as a fulfillment of the President’s promise to the region when he visited in January. The absence of a rail network that connects the South East to the North, has always been referenced as evidence of exclusion and marginalization of the South East, by the Nigerian State, thus fueling secessionist tensions in the region. Against this background, Hon. Umeha described this initiative as a deliberate effort of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration at reconstructing the narrative through a pan-Nigerian governance model that embraces every part of the country. He expressed optimism that the rail-line when it comes on stream, would be a game changer for the South East and Nigeria at large as it would serve as a critical driver of trade and commerce as well as movement of people along the Eastern corridor which would aggregate to impact the Igbo economy at large. Hon. Umeha also commended the National Assembly for the patriotic consideration of the foreign loan request, as well as the South East caucus of the National Assembly, led by Senator Victor Umeh, who made the case for the award of the project. Signed: Raymond Nkannebe | Director of Media and Public communications, Rt. Hon. Barr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha Media Office.
