Those who cannot accept their punishment turn to using Mana Crystals to cast magic, a process which exacts a toll on the users body.

Men who are granted enchanted beards by the Aetherials can have their magic taken away in an instant if they are shaved. Such a punishment is meted out for abusing their gifts. But one does not give up such power easily.

Incredibly unstable, these monsters will explode forcefully if disturbed by magic use in it’s surroundings.

Once a blessed member of the all-female Aetherials, the only Humans who can naturally use magic, the Mana Husk is a twisted shell of what it once was. Gross experimentation turned her body into a Mana factory, but the process could not be controlled.

Such items are also worn by mages as a fashion choice, even including non-magical stones and even glass. Often mages at this level in their training will embark out alone to discover Aetherials born to non-magical parents and offer them training and guidance with the council.

Weaved into their braids, these gems grant greater powers than the relatively short beard would otherwise allow for. While this practice isn’t sanctioned exactly, it’s not likely to be a case for punishment and shaving unless the gems themselves are absorbed during casting.
