Today we found out we have a blind chick… And we had more babies hit the ground! What a day!

More babies hatched over night. We’re getting our flock right. May even have some for sale before too long. 12 more eggs going on in the morning.

The fam here, the drink here, chicks here. Well f, let’s get it then!

We’ve lost 6 chickens in 8 days. Prepping ourselves to lose the whole brood. Damn bird flu is going to while out our third attempt at chickens.

We’ve lost 3 hens in 4 days, no real reason. I’m hoping it’s the fat ladies are laying/jumping on them and it’s not whatever this bird flu is.

Cross braces and a door were the last pieces added. We still need a covering for the top, and I’ll eventually get some spare corrugated metal up there. 4/n

So, we finally decided to build the Fort Knox of chicken coops (runs?). Last year we lost so 60 chickens or so. Never again. We started by digging in! Literally, we leveled the ground (mostly) and tried to be around 4” deep at the shallowest point. 1/n

Oh, and the eggs have started coming already. That’ll happen when you bring home 4 full grown hens. Anyways, this ends our thread about chicken run building and our new brood. Stay tuned for more chicken saga chapters. 6/6

Since completion, we’ve added another 11 chickens to our brood (making 27 total), lost 2 to unknown causes (found one dead and one very weak that eventually died), and Beckett has become a thrice daily visitor. 5/n
