Sunset Rewind

Our reporter @TeranRodriguez1 caught up with @HBHSFootball coach @Hatch89 following the HB Spring Passing Tournament and lineman competition. Overall, it was a solid day for the Oilers, who are taking it one day at a time before their season opener against Long Beach Millikan. Fair warning, Teran sadly forgot his wireless mics (case of being rusty), so he had to do this on the fly.

2-point conversion is no good, and that’ll do it. Huntington Beach falls to Compton 21-20 and sees their day done in their spring passing tournament. Tough end for the Oilers, as they nearly came back from 13 down to win, but they fell just short.

Compton forces a three and out to earn a point and extend its lead over Huntington Beach to 21-13.

Chase D’Witz (if I’m misspelling that, I’m sorry) picks off Compton, giving Huntington Beach a point. Oilers ball down 20-13.

Brady Edmunds hits Nick Navarrete for the score, as that puts Huntington Beach behind Compton 20-12. Oilers need a stop.

Compton responds with a score and a 1-handed catch on the 1-pointer to now lead 20-6 over Huntington Beach.

Huntington Beach gets on the board as Brady Edmunds finds Kai Krumt on a catch-and-run. Extra point is no good, as Compton leads 13-6.

Compton doubles its lead with another score and converts the extra point to lead Huntington Beach 13-0. Oilers need to get something going.

And time runs out. Huntington Beach falls to Tustin 29-8 to finish 2nd in Pool A. Tough outing for the Oilers, as they had backups in the secondary, but just couldn’t match the Tillers’ scoring output. The playoffs will be an 8-team bracket with every team in it.

Tustin answers back with a score and a 1-point conversion. They then force a three and out against Huntington Beach, score on their first play on the drive and converts the 1-point conversion to lead 22-8.

Last pool play game for Huntington Beach in their own spring passing tournament, as they play Tustin. Both teams are 2-0 in pool play, meaning whoever wins this game wins the pool and will have the higher seed come the playoffs.
