🚀 Why Aren’t Speed Gains Aren’t Linear?
One of the biggest misconceptions about overspeed training is that you should set a new personal best every session.
That’s not how the nervous system works.
Overspeed training is primarily a neurological adaptation, not just a muscular one. Each session is teaching your brain and nervous system to recruit motor units faster, coordinate movement more efficiently, and remove the “speed governor” your brain naturally places on your swing.
During the early stages of training, your body is laying down new neural pathways. The brain is learning how to fire muscles in a new sequence and at higher velocities. That process doesn’t always show up immediately on a radar.
Instead, what often happens is something called latent motor learning. Your brain is quietly organizing and refining the movement pattern in the background. Then one day, sometimes after a rest day, the system clicks.
💥 Suddenly you jump 3–5 mph.
It can feel like it came out of nowhere, but it’s actually the result of accumulated neurological adaptation finally expressing itself.
Think of it like charging a battery. Every session adds a little more capacity.
Then eventually the system has enough to produce a new level of speed.
That’s why consistency matters more than chasing PBs every workout.

The Speed Transfer Window - The Key to more speed
Overspeed training like with SuperSpeed is incredibly effective at increasing club head speed. Most golfers see big gains because the nervous system learns to move faster and produce force more explosively.
But faster SuperSpeed swings don’t automatically mean more ball speed for everyone
Ball speed depends on two things
Ball Speed = Club head Speed × Smash Factor
If your club speed jumps but your strike quality drops, you’ll leave distance on the table.
That’s why it’s critical to program in some overspeed work with max-intent driver swings during that period where your nervous system is already primed.
Overspeed training raises your speed ceiling.
Driver swings teach your body how to apply that speed.
When you hit drivers at max speed you’re training:
• Transfer of the Overspeed feels to driver
• Shaft loading and timing
• Face-to-path control
• Efficient energy transfer to the ball
