I notice the @TheGreenParty didn’t clip this of @MothinAli in one of his very rare interviews for BBC Politics North. Mothin is pushed a little by Natalie Oliver of Reform about his claims and whilst before this he can’t look at her he finally loses his temper. His fist is curled and it gets closer and closer to her face as he calls her “far-right”. I’m sure this is not the front man they intended us to see.

Starmer could derail Reform tomorrow by changing the electoral system to a more democratic system… full PP or secondary voting to achieve 50.1%. He won’t because he still believes that Reform is the ideal threat to all decent and left leaning people of the UK. He still believes that he can make it between him and Reform but that ship has sailed. The Greens have stepped up but need to form alliances with socialist if they want to win with FPTP.

There appears to have been a serious breach of long-standing constitutional conventions governing electioneering in the period immediately preceding the recent local government elections in the United Kingdom. Yet despite the gravity of such conduct, many of these breaches are effectively beyond meaningful sanction under existing U.K. law because the conventions themselves have never been properly codified. That legal vacuum has created a dangerous environment in which incumbent governments may increasingly feel free to exploit the machinery of the state for electoral advantage, safe in the knowledge that convention without enforcement is little more than suggestion. In response, I have drafted proposed legislation titled the Electoral Integrity and Democratic Neutrality Bill 2026. The Bill seeks to codify constitutional conventions governing governmental neutrality during electoral periods; prohibit the misuse of public office, state resources, and publicly funded communications for electoral advantage; establish safeguards against coordinated electoral manipulation; impose statutory duties of impartiality upon regulated broadcasters; establish an Electoral Neutrality Commission; and create proportionate criminal offences for aggravated electoral misconduct. The legislation is designed not merely to tighten existing electoral law, but to restore public confidence in the integrity of British democracy itself. Among the concerns prompting this proposal was the decision by the Prime Minister to address all public servants by email on the eve of the election — conduct which arguably presents a prima facie case of electioneering directed at a major electoral constituency using state resources. Alongside this, there appeared to be a highly coordinated media campaign by broadcasters against an insurgent opposition party, despite those broadcasters being subject to statutory and regulatory obligations relating to fairness and due impartiality. Whether one agrees politically with the parties involved is beside the point. The integrity of democracy depends upon rules being applied consistently and institutions remaining neutral during elections. The current framework is inadequate. Constitutional conventions alone are no longer sufficient protection against modern political operations, state communications strategies, and media coordination. Rules without enforcement cease to function as safeguards. If the United Kingdom is to remain a credible parliamentary democracy, stronger legal protections for electoral neutrality are now required. The Electoral Integrity and Democratic Neutrality Bill is intended to begin that conversation. Support the Bill. open.substack.com/pub/langenhove…

The markets need bonds. Bonds don’t need markets. Premium bonds pay zero interest yet people still invest in it and is probably oversubscribed in respect to maximum investment. Most investors would invest more if they could. Do you know how they funded QE and why it was necessary? If you knew then you would have a completely different view of the world. Maybe you don’t want to know.

@Supersage64 @BBCNews Yes, but it is a double edge sword. when the old 10 yr bonds term runs out the gov needs to raise new bonds to pay the old holders, and at that point it needs to pay the yield the market is offering and it is stuck paying that higher yield for the term of the new bond.
