It was reassuring to read in Every Child Achieving and Thriving that supporting excellence in leadership now includes £1 million of annual funding for wellbeing support - specifically to develop new strategies that strengthen leaders’ resilience and capacity to thrive. That word new matters. Many schools still haven’t encountered supervision, often assuming it belongs only in mental health, social care, or emergency services. But schools are all of those things. Staff respond to crises, hold complex family stories, navigate behaviour, SEND and attendance pressures, and still deliver a rich curriculum. DSLs, many of whom are senior leaders, carry an enormous emotional load because they are the ones who truly know the children and their families. If your school hasn’t explored supervision, now is the time to look into it. Wellbeing days, staffroom treats, and motivational displays have their place, but they don’t create the intentional, long‑lasting change that staff need. Reviewing systems, culture and leadership capacity takes time. Supervision can support your staff right now, while those wider changes take shape. If you want to invest in something that genuinely strengthens your team and adds real value to their daily experience, why not start with supervision? #simplysupervision #supervision #supervisioninschools #schoolleader #reflectivepractice

Fancy a cuppa, Headteacher? Heads carve out time for everyone else - pupils, staff, governors, parents, the community. But supervision is the rare space where you make time for you… and that time quietly strengthens your whole school. We often ask why staff feel overwhelmed or exhausted. Yet when we look at the rhythm of a head’s working life, what do staff actually see? A leader who models pause, reflection, and sustainable practice... or a leader who is overstretched, overworked and overfunctioning. Supervision is a bold statement for a head to make. It says: I need space to think, to reflect, to make sense of the emotional and strategic weight of this role, because that’s how I lead well. That isn’t weakness. That’s wisdom. Because when you build your own capacity, you build the school’s capacity. A cuppa. A protected pause. A moment to think deeply, restore perspective, and grow professionally. Why wouldn’t a head make time for that?! #supervision #simplysupervision #supervisioninschool #schoolleader #wellbeingmatters

Often, I spend time talking about supervision - promoting it, explaining who it’s for, and highlighting the many benefits it can bring to leaders, DSLs and staff working in education. But I also think it’s important to be honest about the other side. Supervision isn’t for everyone. Some people won’t feel they need it, and others may struggle at first to see how it could help them. That doesn’t make supervision ineffective - it simply reminds us that it’s a reflective space, and reflection requires openness, curiosity and a willingness to look beneath the surface. When those conditions aren’t there yet, supervision may not feel like the right fit. Honest conversations about who supervision is for - and who it isn’t are just as important as talking about its benefits. #supervision #simplysupervision #reflectivepractice #leadership #wellbeing

When staff feel supported, they feel valued and seen. Supervision provides a protected space for adults to speak openly about the demands of their work, enabling them to reflect, process, and take purposeful action. This leads to calmer thinking, stronger professional judgement, and a more resilient workforce. And ultimately, the greatest beneficiaries are the children. Supervision strengthens the adults in your school so they can offer the highest quality care, teaching, and leadership. #supervision #simplysupervision #reflectivepractice #schoolleadership Photo from Canva

@KyrstieStubbs So true! Leaders often experience imposter syndrome and feel they’re not deserving enough, but these are often the best leaders!

Morning folks - ready for my hotel breakfast after a boss day and night, food, alcohol, dancing and football. Drive home, chores and then more food for the OH and his birthday. All in all a good weekend

My 2026 #running journey started late this year due to being unwell. Today should have been a rest day but realised I was 3k off of #100km since 7th Jan so had to #run. Nice little morning jog to get to a round number. 100 down, 900km to go for 2026 target! Lovely to see the sun!

I have a Y9 student with EHCP who struggles to access lessons and has mostly truanted maths or turned up, but refused to open his book - this week we had a breakthrough. This is his last two lessons - his mum cried when I called her to celebrate this! I couldn’t be more proud!

📘 Key EYFS Requirement on Supervision (2025) The EYFS makes supervision a legal requirement. It states that: ➡️Providers must put appropriate arrangements in place for the supervision of staff who have contact with children and families. ➡️Effective supervision should provide support, coaching and training for practitioners and promote the interests of children. If you are looking for supervision that is effective and school budget friendly then simply get in touch with Simply Supervision ✅ #supervision #simplysupervision #eyfs #reflectivepractice #schoolleadership

In a system defined by intense accountability and constant internal and external pressures, compassion becomes the thread that reconnects people to why they entered education in the first place: to make a difference. It restores meaning to their work. For leaders, compassion is not simply a value to support - it is a practice to embody. And supervision is the discipline that makes this possible. Supervision must first start with the leadership team. Leaders who offer themselves compassion create the inner capacity to extend it authentically to others. Without that foundation, compassion becomes rhetoric rather than culture. Supervision is how leaders stay connected to themselves, to their humanity, and to the work that matters. It is the starting point for any leader who wants to lead with courage, clarity, and care. #supervision #compassion #compassionateleadership #simplysupervision #reflectivepractice
