In NYC I casually meet the most impressive artists, creators, and hardware engineers
yet they're completely invisible online
not because they want to
they are just so unnatural that they don't fit within any vertical that reels or tiktok provides
their value shines beyond the algorithms constraints
so i sorta want to start a series called "algorithm rejects"
invite them to a studio
have one camera guy that's out of sight, out of mind
and have them show me what they're working on

i don’t think most people have come around to how important the livenation verdict is for the experiential industry at large.
a single 3000 cap venue (most of these in new york are owned by livenation/bowery presents) doing 2 nights of shows at $50 a ticket 40 weeks a year is $12mm in gmv just from ticketing. that excludes merch, passes, memberships, etc. winning a single venue is enough to justify a durable business. and ticketmaster controls all of these venues above a certain size through a suite of anti-competitive measures arising from their vertical integration.
as someone who has taken away business from universe and ticketweb (also owned by ticketmaster), we’ve seen first hand how to win clients by delivering better outcomes using software and services. people don’t use ticketmaster products because the chose to. we know that much.
ticketmaster largely lost in the court of public opinion and that is likely going to be their undoing as calls for breaking up the monopoly come from every corner. i don’t know if it’ll actually happen but it is a strong case for reform across the entire industry.

Foundation is the most disappointing platform I've ever used in Web3. I joined when they had about 300 followers, and minting my artwork there brought them massive press. From there I gave suggestions that improved the site, and personally onboarded about 20 classic meme creators there, generating $2.8m in sales, handing Foundation about $420,000 in platform fees (15% at the time). Their thanks? The founder told me on a phone call that if you're not actively minting there then they aren't going to showcase you. They stopped talking about my artwork in December 2021, then later used my artwork (this specific artwork was *not* minted on their platforms) in an unauthorized commercial. I since then moved to using custom contracts, to stop being exploited by greedy platform gatekeeper behavior. Now Foundation is dying, and they have the nerve to ask the artists they've milked for years to pay $20/month to pin their own artwork which stays on their contract. I refuse to keep my art on a platform that spent years squandering creator goodwill. To my 1/1 collectors (the 6 or 7 of you, this does not apply to any of my main collections), if you ever have issues viewing your pieces please contact me directly (@PRguitarman ) and I can set up a free burn redeem so your artwork can live on a new custom contract where it belongs. It is a frustrating thing to realize, but on the bright side your owned artwork will be free, no longer muddled in a pile of 111,000 other artworks on a dead contract, controlled by a dead platform that gave up on every artist there.

I’m not fully invisible but my ratios are fried despite 10 years of hosting and working at events, startups, etc, across several verticals.

Every time a raise opportunity comes, my cofounders get discouraged. And that cycle really hurts. It takes a while for people to get back to you. And giving me the directive to completely ignore or reject several meetings is just sabotage. Reconsidering tech. Might just artmax.
