Our elementary and secondary principals brought great energy and ideas to yesterday’s meeting as we worked together to plan for student success. Thank you to Parva for hosting us with a great location and excellent refreshments to support our discussions.

I had the pleasure of joining students from @SharksAHS’s Marine Science Academy and @delandbulldogs’s AP Environmental classes as they experienced a 'Day in the Life of the Estuary.' Together, we learned about the plants, birds, and plankton that make up Rose Bay. @VCSCTE

During my visit to Deltona High, I popped into Mr. Michael Daly’s classroom. His students had just taken a test and felt confident about how they did. Mr. Daly, named their Teacher of the Year, is making a positive impact in his fifth year. @DHSHappenings

Today’s classroom grant surprises are just one of the many ways we continue to support innovation in Volusia County classrooms. It’s exciting to celebrate our teachers' hard work as we deliver over $97,000 in grants alongside the @FUTURES_Inc.

This week, I joined Daytona Beach City Manager Deric Feacher, Fire Chief Dru Driscoll, and Daytona Beach NAACP President Cynthia Slater for a collaborative meeting. What began as one topic grew into a discussion on hurricane relief & how we can continue supporting the community.

It was a pleasure meeting with our new teachers today! Hearing about their experiences so far and learning how school and district support are helping them succeed was a highlight. We shared ideas for making things even better, thank you to everyone who attended and contributed.

It was a joy to stop by Campbell Middle and take part in Mr. Jackson’s 6th-grade math small group session alongside Principal Owens. Watching these students dive into their work shows the power of focused learning and collaboration. Keep up the great work, Spartans! @cmspartans

As we close out Hispanic Heritage Month, I had the opportunity to speak with @WFTV about how our dual language programs empower students to succeed in English and Spanish. As someone who experienced the challenges of learning a new language, I know firsthand the impact this has!

Volusia County Schools is continuing to closely monitor Hurricane Milton in collaboration with Volusia County Emergency Management. The storm is expected to bring winds, heavy rain and potential flooding to our area starting on Wednesday. To allow staff and families additional time to prepare for the storm, 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐎𝐜𝐭. 𝟖, 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲. All schools will let out one hour earlier than usual, at which time students and staff may leave. All after-school activities, except for Extended Day Enrichment Programs (EDEP), will be canceled on Tuesday. The board workshop scheduled for Tuesday afternoon will be moved to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, and the board meeting will be moved to 1 p.m. 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐎𝐜𝐭. 𝟗, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐎𝐜𝐭. 𝟏𝟎. More information will be communicated in the future about making up these instructional days.
