Chase Master Virat Kohli scored 69* in 38 balls to help defending champion RCB to start IPL 2026 with victory.
He smashed straight drive for six against Eshan Malinga.
He also hit a beautiful flat six against Harshal Patel.

@Fancricket12 ODI bilateral series popularity dipping very fast. But even T20I bilateral also has limited audience globally.
Last ODI World Cup & CT were big hit.
Popularity of ODI cricket definitely reduced, but we can see at least few more ODI WC beyond 2031. Stars will keep on emerging
English

Basically, ODI cricket needs Rohit or Kohli to fill big stadiums outside India now. In an ODI between England and AUS in 2022, the Colosseum of MCG perhaps had 5000 fans!!! Some here think this format will survive.
Bharath Ramaraj@Fancricket12
Rassie van der Dussen averages 50 in ODIs. Does anyone look at him as a good player? Very little chance of ODI cricket surving v t20s. T20 cricket is the only format where associates can come through. 2031 could be even the last 50-over WC.
English

@Fancricket12 No question on his achievements.
As you already mentioned in the original post, his record is superb.
My point of view was that the ODI World Cup title might be something which is missing from his CV & at least currently ODI WC title might be the best title in the world.
English

@Surendra21286 And he was coaching England. The pressure on him was massive in the Ashes. So in that perspective, that was the ultimate prize.
English

What next for Andy Flower? The most versatile CV as a cricket coach. He has completed coaching.
Franchise cricket:
RCB - Trophy and once playoff
Multan Sultans - Trophy
Gulf Giants - Trophy
Trent Rockets - Trophy
LSG - Twice playoffs
International cricket:
Ashes - Home and away series wins - 09, 10-11 and '13.
Test series win in India
T20 WC - Trophy - 2010
England - Number one rank in Tests and ODIs too.
Champions Trophy - Final

English

@Fancricket12 For England, yes Ashes is big. But still we can't compare with ODI World Cup.
Olympics biggest event, but considering limited popularity of cricket, might not see cricket in each Olympics.
T20 cricket definitely can compete & debatable; that's why said maybe (typo error: mat be)
English

For an England cricket team, Ashes is way** bigger than the WC or any trophy. And England won it thrice under him, including one away. Unprecedented in their modern-day history.
Secondly, a bang average England side was ranked number one in ODIs, and they reached the final of CT. That is as far as he could have taken them.
And T20 WC and Olympics are set to overtake ODI WC. This is set to become a fact.
English

@WG_RumblePants Great choice. His understanding of cricket & current England cricket is very good. Rob Key & Brendon McCullum pair is a big flop for England. Except for the current World Cup, they achieved failure in all 3 cricket formats.
English

I’ve been critical of Michael Vaughan chasing headlines and trying to manufacture clickbait quotes. I think he’s tarnished his 2005 legacy a bit by doing that. I’m one of many fans that he’s blocked.
But, having said all that, credit where it’s due. Having listened to him on the TMS podcast and his own pod today, he sounds a lot more competent and capable than Rob Key.
He clearly has a vision for England. He is a proven performer. I don’t think he would take any crap. He might even knock a few heads together.
Would you like to see him take over from Key?

English

@cricbuzz David Warner & Bairstow was a beast pair in terms of performances. Abhishek Sharma & Travis Head have the ability to replace them.
English

@WasimJaffer14 Will Jacks performed well in the last IPL edition as well as the current T20WC. Needs to be considered. In fact, he was very successful in home matches last season at Wankhede even with his bowling.

@joybhattacharj That's a logical solution instead of blame game.
English

One of the problems with the IPL auction system is players getting picked up at a base price and then not finding it worth their while - specially English players who have to compensate their counties and pay significant taxes.
One way to tackle this is to allow a player to put a reserve price, just like in an art auction. That is the minimum price the player is comfortable at. If he comes, he's definitely satisfied, and if teams think he's not worth that amount they just do not bid.
English

@thevirdas Why not 10 min opener, 45 min main show part 1 followed by 20 mins break followed by 10 min opener and again 45-50 min show
