I deleted my account 3 years ago bc it felt like Twitter was one giant argument but I miss talking books! So I'm starting afresh. Talk to me about books (only!)

@SurfGirlReads Hi Katie, my husband and I just finished MDC it wasn’t at all what we were expecting but we really enjoyed it. Thanks very much for the recommendation. C

@cjspeechless if you're looking for something else set in LA, have you read My Dirty California? I just finished reading it. Definitely my favorite book of the year. It’s one of those rare books that’s literary but also an incredible yarn.
English

@KarenLNHollis what a great list! Thanks for sharing. Adding a couple of these to my TBR.

@deanzulkofske thanks for sharing your list! Made me want to revisit some Agatha Christie!
My three favorites of the year were Sea of Tranquility, My Dirty California, and The Candy House

My final #readingisfunandcool update of 2022.
I read 20 books, eight more than my goal for the year. Mostly fiction, with lots of mystery during the fall. I'm shooting for 20 again in 2023🤠
What should I read next year? What was the best book you read this year? Let me know⬇️

@katieindica thanks for sharing! I loved T&T&T, added a few of these others to my TBR list. My favorites were Sea of Tranquility, My Dirty California, and The Candy House

@andrewjlavigne that's a cool top 5! Makes me want to go back and reread LA Confidential...

🎆📚5 Best Read Books in 2022📚🎆
Finished 118 books! These are the Top 5 (#5 in next post.) A world redefining non-fiction, a stylistic perp walk the hard way of a crime fiction, moody but humanistic and at times sweet Epic Fantasy, and a narrative poem about small lives led.

@murdermayheman1 thanks for sharing! What was your fav crime novel of the year?

@WhatevsComic Lawrence Block before bed?! Lol. Sure way to give you some dark dreams...
English

@SurfGirlReads I'm currently reading Koko by Peter Straub, and have A Drop of the Hard Stuff by Lawrence Block on my Kindle for bedtime.
English

@WhatevsComic Have you read My Dirty California? I just finished reading it. Definitely my favorite book of the year. It’s one of those rare books that’s literary but also an incredible yarn.
English

@SurfGirlReads I’ll make a note of it, thanks. If you don’t mind travelling out of state but fancy some evocative American noir try Missing by Tim Gautreaux, or one of my favs Crooked Letter Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin 🇺🇸
English

@SurfGirlReads I’d say his masterpiece “blood meridian” back in may. It was very dark but it’s very deep and symbolic. Watched tons of lectures on it after too.

Anyone else reading Cormac McCarthys new novel the passenger? What do you think? I may have to go grab Stella maris later today. #cormacmccarthy #thepassenger #newbook #literature #stellamaris
English

@christinabelle Have you read My Dirty California? I just finished reading it. Definitely my favorite book of the year. It’s one of those rare books that’s literary but also an incredible yarn. It’s part mystery, part thriller, part crime fiction.
English

@cjspeechless @kennyhiggs Alright, will do! Thanks so much for the advice
English

@SurfGirlReads @kennyhiggs I had read the whole series (3 previous books) before reading this one and it wraps up all the long arcs quite neatly, I think it would work as a stand alone but I’d start at the beginning in New Orleans and take the journey cross country and through the century with Ida!

I've been looking forward to this for ages. It's been on the TBR pile for weeks and it's made it to the top (been reading some really dry nonsense for college). What are you lot reading at the moment?

@NickyVMitch I'm excited to check out Malibu Rising. Considering I live 30 min from Malibu and love surfing, I don't know how I haven't read it yet!
English

@LadiesWhoLeague @MelanieTait Just finished Malibu Rising which was easy reading and good fun
English

This is what I need: it's for someone returning to fiction.
I love you guys, but Moby Dick is way too fancy for someone when they're just getting back into reading.

@MelanieTait I found Gone Girl on the side of the road whilst in a book drought and it was a bloody page turner, i tells ya.
