The Surprise Police Department is encouraging our community members to share their feedback on the quality of service and performance of the department as part of the ongoing accreditation process through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). During a 60-day period, April 1 - May 31, 2026, community members can provide comments and commendations regarding the Surprise Police Department’s quality of service or other performance information relevant to the department’s accredited status through this Public Comment Portal link established by CALEA. Successfully achieving Accreditation for the sixth time in November 2024, the Surprise Police Department must comply with nationally established CALEA standards to achieve and maintain accredited status. As part of our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and providing the community with exceptional police services, the Surprise Police Department has voluntarily participated in the CALEA accreditation process since 2007. Fatal shooting under investigation in Surprise On March 21, 2026, Surprise Police responded to the area of 15100 West Bell Road for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located several individuals believed to be involved in the incident, including a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers secured the scene and immediately rendered medical aid to the man until fire personnel arrived. The man, later identified as 42-year-old Davaress Bolden, was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Detectives are working in coordination with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office to determine any potential charges related to this incident. Investigators believe there were multiple witnesses who may have observed part or all of the incident. Earlier this morning, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Surprise Police responded to a reported shooting in the area of 15100 W. Bell Road. It was later learned that multiple individuals engaged in a physical altercation. During the incident, gunfire was reported, and one individual involved was struck. The injured person was transported to a local hospital; their condition is currently unknown. Multiple individuals have been detained in connection with the incident. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Detectives are on scene, continuing to gather information. There is no threat to the community regarding this incident.

Please please be patient as you approach the intersection and follow the instructions given to you by the officers directing traffic.  The repairs are expected to take several hours.

Justin Rose is 5'07" tall, 120 lbs with brown hair, and hazel eyes. He was last seen on foot in the area of Reems Road and Grand Avenue wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and black eye glasses. Last night, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Surprise Police officers responded to the area of North Reems Road and West Acoma Drive regarding a reported domestic violence incident. While canvassing the area for the suspect, an officer located the individual, and a foot pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, both the suspect and the officer were struck by a vehicle on North Reems Road. The officer and the suspect were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The officer sustained minor injuries. The suspect’s injuries are believed to be more serious. In coordination with the West Valley Incident Response Team, the Peoria Police Department will be investigating this incident.

Police arrest juvenile for posting online school threat. Surprise, AZ (January 24, 2026) On January 23, 2026, Surprise Police arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with online threats of violence towards Imagine Prep School in Surprise. On January 22, 2026, the Surprise Police Department was notified of a threatening social media post directed at Imagine Prep in Surprise. Detectives worked through the night to identify the individual responsible and determine their location. Yesterday, the juvenile suspect was safely taken into custody without incident at his residence in Phoenix. The investigation later confirmed the juvenile was not a student at Imagine Prep in Surprise. The juvenile is charged with ARS 13-2308.02(A), Making a Terroristic Threat, a Class 3 felony, and ARS 13-2911(A)(1)(A), Interference with or Disruption of an Educational Institution, a Class 6 felony. The suspect was booked into the Durango Juvenile Detention Center. “We appreciate the courage shown by the students who came forward to help keep their campus safe. Any threat of violence against our schools is a serious matter and will be taken as such. Individuals who participate in this behavior will be held completely responsible for their actions.” said Surprise Police Chief Evan Becher. Update regarding the threat against Imagine Prep School: a suspect is in custody. Additional information will be released when it’s available.

The Surprise Police Department is aware of a threat posted on social media directed at Imagine Preparatory Academy in Surprise. The incident is currently under investigation. The Surprise Police Department takes all threats of this nature seriously, and the safety of students and staff remains a top priority. Out of an abundance of caution, police resources will be on campus today.
