It's not really lack of competition in sports content: it's the reality that LIVE sports are the only video "events" with relatively large audiences these days. All other content is fragmented. But you're right: if there is collusion or other funny business with the sports content, it need to be heavily examined.
English

@ClayTravis That's because LIVE sports is the main way to achieve any semblance of audience at scale. Everyone wants a piece of the action. The hardware is the commodity now.

@incolnlay I'd also argue that they're expanding the appeal successfully. And they'll probably course-correct (pun intended) next year. But, no excuse for that camera work on 18, though. And Scottie thinking about "what could have been..." Loved The Masters!

I agree, I think that they are still the best sports product out there, I just get nervous seeing them stray from the formula of mystique, history, and a focus on the traditions. The thing that has always made the masters unique is putting Patrons, viewers, and tradition first. Feels like maybe they took their hand off the wheel for a minute. The beauty of it is that they can correct course before next year, and all will be well. Unique thing, given that it’s just once per year.

“Overexposure” is the word I’m left with after the Masters. Demand for all things Masters is as high as ever, but they’re risking oversupply.
The thing that always made the Masters great is the perfectly curated blend of elusive and accessible, layered on nailing the details. It’s not naked, it’s perfectly covered, leaving something to the imagination.
A little mystery. The feeling that you won’t truly ever know unless you’re on the grounds.
But now, they’ve given the people what they want - more. More shots, more angles, more commentary, Pimento Cheese shipped right to your house. But, it could be argued that all this comes at a cost, and once a line is crossed, it can’t be undone. I think we all get the sense they were uncomfortably close to that line this year. From celebrities at the Par 3 to an App that had glitches to the production making bogey on the 72nd hole and the death of a commercial-free second nine.
I feel that they’re on the precipice of losing luster, and the only way to get it back will be to return to the true fundamentals, which will include deleting many of these additions we’ve had in recent years.
I’d love to hear some discussion on this - am I wrong? Am I the only one feeling this way?

@stoolpresidente You can never see much of anything at any golf tournament in person, let’s be honest. You go for the vibe and the hospitality tent. Where there are big screens.
English

@stoolpresidente He is as chill and elegant as the Masters brand. I agree.
English

@ClayTravis And all this time I thought it was just my bad eyesight.

@KenHanscom Ummmm. Closing Ceremony now "only" $4,961. Each. But, you're in the "good seats" so there's that? No, thanks. Medal events are cost-prohibitive, too other than, say, Women's Archery. So disappointed.
English

@FOS Such a scam. My "Drop 1" is today and not much left. Closing Ceremony is a bargain at $4,900 a pop. Not.
English

@LA28 @axs @eventim_usa Closing Ceremonies tickets at $4,900? Seriously? What a disappointment with my Drop 1 draw.
English

@BarrettSallee It's truly a vision of simplistic elegance. Not an easy feat.
English

@SportsonPrime OMG and even the little crowd wave acknowledgement. Precious!
