May help explain cross-species differences. In rodents, hippocampal theta is more continuous & linked 2 mov’t speed, while in humans it is intermittent, possibly because it aligns with discrete, eye movement, related exploratory behavior rather than movement speed as we show here

New lab paper! 🧠 Human hippocampal & MTL theta activity is linked to eye movements, but only during memory-guided navigation. Theta is also strongest during longer, more exploratory eye movements. plos.io/4dwJhR8 Huge congrats to @humza_n_zubair & team! 👏

The biggest problem holding neuroscience back right now isn’t data or tools, thanks in large part to the BRAIN Initiative. It’s fragmentation across species. I wrote👇 to hopefully spark discussion around an issue that can only be solved as a community thetransmitter.org/animal-models/…

In just 10 yrs, BRAIN has enabled human research I never thought possible, leading to first-in-human discoveries & breakthrough treatments for PTSD, Depression, OCD, Parkinson’s & more. For many of these patients, they will tell you it’s the reason they are alive today.
