You asked. I live in Israel. Also, Jewish sources tell us how the story ends. What happens to us individually I believe is in God’s hands, but we know that the Jewish people will survive somehow. Am Yisrael chai. Do I still sometimes have a panic attack when there have been just too many ballistic missile attacks in one night? Of course, yes. But even in those moments, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere outside Israel right now. Because that look when someone realizes you’re Jewish; that job interview that suddenly is canceled, that neighbor who is superficially nice but you just can’t shake that feeling? It doesn’t happen here. And it makes all the difference to being able to just live your daily life without carrying that load. We have other loads to carry, but as a nation, we carry them among our brothers and sisters in our home, and we will all do our utmost to protect each other.

After a dark conversation with a Jewish friend this morning, I can’t shake this feeling off. We talked about the future for Jews around the world, especially in the West. And honestly? Most Jewish people I know are scared. Some quietly. Some deeply. Some are absolutely terrified. I am too. So I genuinely want to ask the minority of Jews who are not afraid: What gives you calm?
