On the @theallinpod this week, @chamath asked @nvidia CEO Jensen Huang about decentralized AI training, calling our Covenant-72B run "a pretty crazy technical accomplishment." One correction: it's 72 billion parameters, not four. Trained permissionlessly across 70+ contributors on commodity internet. The largest model ever pre-trained on fully decentralized infrastructure. Jensen's answer is worth hearing too.

Sim-to-real is a real gap, we agree. That’s why our simulations are not the final product, but an intermediate step that needs backup from evidence in the real world. We’re building a physical lab specifically to tackle the kinds of issues you mention: estimator drift, sensor noise, startup uncertainty, and the rest of the real-world stack that doesn’t show up cleanly in sim. We’ve also already open-sourced one physical drone implementation based on ROS2 + INAV (Please search "Langostino"). So the plan is to improve both the benchmark, making it increasingly sim-to-real grounded, and the physical robots themselves, so that “if it flies here, it flies anywhere” becomes a slogan a reality.

Procedurally generated envs are great for policy training, less great for the part where cold IMU gives its regards and the EKF takes 40 seconds to converge while your agent thinks it’s 3 meters left of where it actually is.

Special AI platform has been created on the basis of the Center for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies, which allows: — to safely train models without direct access to sensitive databases; — to work with large arrays of labeled photo and video materials; — to use data that is constantly updated. This data is already used to train neural networks that automatically detect ground and air targets in the DELTA system.
