Sweden at the UNFPA Executive Board: We are proud to have signed a new multi‑year agreement with @UNFPA to continue delivering strong results on sexual and reproductive health and rights, including life‑saving services in humanitarian settings.

LHRC has released its Human Rights Day 2025 Press Statement, outlining a series of serious human rights violations recorded before, during, and after the 2025 General Election. The statement highlights human rights violations including unlawful arrests, enforced disappearances, excessive use of force resulting in civilian deaths, treason charges against critics, suppression of media freedom, internet shutdowns, and violations of freedom of worship. LHRC has also issued strong recommendations to the Government of Tanzania, urging immediate action to protect fundamental rights, ensure accountability, uphold freedom of expression, initiate a new constitution-making process, and strengthen overall human rights protection. Deeply concerned about shrinking democratic space, abductions, violence, internet shutdown and reports of serious irregularities surrounding the elections in Tanzania. Dialogue with all stakeholders- opposition, civil society and faith-based organisations, is essential. A genuine multiparty system must be the goal.

I and the Chargé d’affairs fr Norway @NorAmbTZ visited Fr. Kitima at the hospital yesterday. A great relief to see him in good spirits despite the serious injuries. It’s vital that the perpetrators be brought to justice and fundamental rights protected.
