Final thoughts on the 2-0 loss to Portugal: -No moral victories. I don't care if we didn't look that awful. We lost again. We lost two games by a 7-2 scoreline against two teams we need to start making up ground on. It sucks, but we just aren't that good right now. The team has been flat out bad under Pochettino's tenure that has spanned a year and a half other than like two or three windows. -Your World Cup expectations should be very low. Players who haven't raised their level. Don't play with enough passion. They're comfortable. The coach also just very evidently doesn't care and is mailing it in. Has been for a long time. Was a bad hire in hindsight. We'll pay the price at the WC for it. Goal should be QF's, but that's very unlikely. This team probably is barely a Round of 16 caliber team. Less likely one than they were last cycle, to be honest. -WTF was with the tactical approach today? Just a total indifferent approach from the coach. Didn't want to score any goals. His attack was two attackers with bad end product (one who is really a wingback), an out of form attacker, and a Swiss army knife versatile type who is really a #8. No striker. There was just little goal threat on the field and his idea of changing things throughout the game was to never sub in his best goal scorer. -Pepi got 20 minutes the whole window. He had an assist in those 20 minutes. Really created that goal too. Agyemang had an easy finish. Other than that easy goal Agyemang and Balogun did absolutely nothing this window, yet the coach rates them ahead of Pepi (reasonable with Balogun, very unreasonable with Agyemang). Pepi might miss the WC team. Our coach doesn't rate him and it's going to hurt our attack at the WC. -Please stop with Berhalter, Roldan, and Arfsten. They have no business playing at this level. It's not MLS hate. It's just not a top league. No one is complaining our GK's are from MLS. That's the best we've got. MLS field players have not looked good at this level compared to our players in top leagues. It's reality. -Richards was good. Freeman was good (I don't think he'll play at the WC because he's not playing at club level, but he low-key might do a solid job if he plays). I thought Trusty and Freese helped themselves without doing anything great. Tessmann was lazy on the second goal, but I thought he was generally positive. Not many positives in this game. -Hard to be anything other than dismayed with the senior team right now. They've not earned any more goodwill from their fans than that right now.
