🚨BREAKING: The suspect involved in the shooting at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA today has been identified as Mohamed Jalloh, a former Army National Guardsman who was previously arrested in 2016 for providing material support to ISIS. Jalloh, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Sierra Leone, traveled abroad multiple times attempting to join ISIS. He was convicted in federal court and released from prison in 2024. He was neutralized.

I have seen the worst decisions made in professional settings when people export their judgment to LLMs. I do not think we are to a point where judgement can be moved from humans to AI… have it be a sounding board, have it be an assistant, treat it like a junior associate. Don’t let it ink a deal for a new car, you wouldn’t let a junior sales person do that without speaking to the sales manager. I'm sure it will get better, but today these examples highlight the gaps.

Canadian trans shooter was flagged via internal systems at Open AI for writings about real-world violence, including gun violence. Over a dozen Open AI employees debated telling law enforcement. OpenAI leaders decided not to inform authorities about a potential mass murder.

I do think right wing individuals have had conversations with AI, so no argument there. I don’t have a WSJ subscription, did the article say that no one has been reported from either side? Or are you assuming they have not been reported? Only data point on not being reported is this individual and I genuinely believe if it was a far right individual the report would have been made. There is no stigma from reporting someone on the far right and being wrong.
