This is Mamata Banerjee. Born in 1955 in Kolkata in a simple family, she grew up facing money problems. In the 1970s and 80s, she joined student politics and became active in Congress. In 1984, she became one of the youngest MPs after defeating Somnath Chatterjee. She had a tough phase due to fights within Congress and felt sidelined. In 1997, she left Congress and started her own party, Trinamool Congress. In the 2000s, she led big protests in Singur and Nandigram against land issues. People started seeing her as a leader who stood for farmers and poor people. In 2011, she ended 34 years of Left Front rule and became CM of West Bengal. She won again in 2016 and 2021 and became even stronger politically.
