According to EPF, the average retirement savings of people aged between 35-39 is RM57,786.
With your current balance of RM89,000, that’s already way better than the majority of people.
In 2019, EPF set a basic savings target of RM240,000 for people retiring at the age of 55.
This amount translates into a monthly income of RM1,000 for 20 years.
But to retire comfortably, EPF recommends at least RM600,000.
Assuming that you currently have RM89k, you would only need to contribute RM77/mo for the next 18 years to hit RM240,000.
However, for the amount to grow to RM600,000, you need to contribute RM1,143 per month.
Here’s the good news: Your employer is already doing the heavy lifting for you.
The calculations include mandatory EPF contributions, so you would only need to top up the difference to hit RM600k by 55.

This indicator often suggests that the economy isn't performing well, and has historically always been followed by massive stock market crashes.
