Mining wealth rarely stays where it is extracted. Development cannot be measured in exports alone. Communities face displacement, pollution, and lost livelihoods while profits leave the country. The resources that Africa exports from its own ground rarely go to use in advancing Africa through its own Energy Transition. The Pamoja Critical Minerals Alliance (@PamojaCMA) has committed to raising awareness on the these consequences of extractivism, and give a platform to the very community whose rights to electrification and a green future must be upheld at every turn. Read the Pamoja Critical Mineral's Alliance Declaration here: sarwatch.co.za/wp-content/upl… #MythVSFact #Pamoja #PCMA #EnergyTransition #GreenTransition #MiningJustice #ResourceGovernance #CommunityRights

Pamoja Critical Minerals Alliance Makes its Public Declaration on Critical Minerals, Industrialisation and Sustainability Safeguards on Thursday, 26 February, Pamoja Africa announced the adoption of the Pamoja Critical Minerals Alliance Declaration at the #PamojaAfricaStrategy and #PamojaLaunch. Read by Alan Herbert, disability rights advocate from Kenya, the Declaration delivered a strong political statement for mineral and energy justice. Pamoja has committed to mobilising the voice of all citizens across Africa — including Indigenous peoples, trade union leaders, faith-based organisations, youth, women, persons with disabilities, and community-based organisations. The Declaration places particular emphasis on supporting grassroots groups and organisations that represent or stand with specific rightsholder communities and often face barriers to being heard. It commits to strengthening the agency of African voices — especially marginalised communities — in shaping mineral and energy futures in the era of the scramble for Africa's critical minerals, central to powering climate change action, defence and security equipment, AI infrastructure, semiconductors and the electronics industry. The message was clear: alone, we can only go so far — but together, we are unstoppable. Together, We Stand United: Pamoja! For more, read the attached Declaration on our website: sarwatch.co.za/wp-content/upl… #Pamoja #Solidarity #JustTransition #CriticalMinerals #EnvironmentalJustice

Power goes beyond the politics was the message of session 2b of #PamojaAfricaStrategy & #PamojaLaunch, centred on 'Amplifying Women's Voices in Mining, Energy and Climate Justice Movements. Speakers @mmutsamvi , Executive Director of the #EconomicJusticeForWomenProject, Zimbabwe, and Nzira De-Deus, Executive Director of @ForumMulher, Mozambique discussed how we activate agency in youth, women, and Africans and how to cultivate a powerful voice Ultimately, they concluded that power does not solely exist within positions, but just as, or more importantly as leadership at the community level to ensure there are more voices that carry the same message being given a platform and a seat at every table. Reproductions of the same extractionist movement can only perpetuate the othering of women in rooms of influence, and if #Pamoja is to succeed, it will be by championing women at every level which will benefit their livelihoods, their communities and the Just Transition landscape in seen and unseen ways. #Solidarity #JustTransition #SustainableMining #CriticalMinerals #EnvironmentalJustice

The #PamojaActionStrategy & #PamojaLaunch gave platform to a significant and powerful group who Pamoja cannot exist without giving platform: People with Disabilities. Opening with a statistic, Alan Herbert Onyango, Disability Justice Advocate and Kenyan pioneer living with albinism shed light to the fact that 1.3 Billion people today live with some form of significant disability. Alan urged that "You don't include persons with disabilities because it's the right thing to do. You include us because you cannot build a credible, durable, people-centred movement without us." Alan urged that supporting people with disabilities should stand as a pillar within the Pamoja Movement, and that there is a wealth of expertise, skill, and value in doing so. #Pamoja #Solidarity #JustTransition #SustainableMining #CriticalMinerals #EnvironmentalJustice

Session 2a of the #PamojaAfricaStrategy & #PamojaLaunch Workshop highlighted 'Faith in Action: Strengthening Community Voice in Mining and Energy Transitions'. Reverend Suzzane Matale from the #AficaMethodistChurch, Zambia, began by emphasizing the role faith based organizations have played in freedom struggles across Africa. She emphasized the unique role Faith plays in connecting communities and governments. Ultimately, she stressed that the church must play a larger role in supporting communities on the ground through their communication with policy makers. Fr. Toussaint M. Kafarhire from the Arrupe Centre for Research and Training (#CARF) and Admire Mutizwa, Director at the @zccinzim similarly stressed that the Church carries substantial influence that could be used to support policies that benefit mine workers and mining communities and steer their countries towards the Just Transition, while acknowledging that it is likewise the Church's responsibility to fight for the prosperity of its people, even in the face of powerful states and corporations. The panelists closed the session by emphasizing that the Pamoja Critical Minerals Alliance Social Movement is an indispensable chance to rally groups such as faith based organizations, youth, women and miners themselves, and that is should not be wasted. #Pamoja #Solidarity #JustTransition #SustainableMining #CriticalMinerals #EnvironmentalJustice

The Pamoja Continental Strategy Planning Workshop and Official Launch commences with a full room of participants from across the continent! Dr. Claude Kabemba, Executive Director of @The_SARWatch and Reverend Wilfred Dimingu, Secretary General of @zccinzim delivered the opening remarks. Dr. Claude began by stating natural wealth used without sustainable and equitable planning harms the prosperity of Africa. "Pamoja means together, and together is how Africa must respond. Africa's critical minerals must drive Africa's industrialization. This movement belongs to all Africans on the ground; miners, students, women taking care of their communities, teachers and all those living on the continent." "Where sovereignty means shaping value chains. Where value addition takes place before exporting. Where states and corporate are held accountable. We must show that mining justice is development." Reverend Wilfred Dimingu opened by greeting in the name of justice dignity and hope. "We meet here in Harare at a defining moment in African history. History tells us that when Africa is made central on the world stage, the African people are often made invisible." "Minerals from Africa are powering a greener world but the people in the communities where mining is happening cannot be left behind." "Prosperity cannot be built on the exploitation of African people. This workshop is therefore not only structural, but moral, political, and spiritual." "Faith must stand alongside those who sacrifice their bodies and well-being to produce Africa's wealth. The church therefore cannot remain silent, which would make it complicit with this exploitation. Pamoja is therefore paramount, and instills in me three hopes, that the workshop will enter the voices of the frontline community, that it will promote accountability from government and corporate, and inspire a vision grounded in dignity, ecological balance and peace." ZIMBABWE STANDS WITH THE PEOPLE OF THE SISTER REPUBLIC ON MOZAMBIQUE: His Excellency the President, Dr ED Mnangagwa, has directed that two Air-Rescue Helicopters be despatched to assist with the Evacuation Programme in Mozambique. The two crafts will be joining in the effort shortly. Through our CPU and under the auspices of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Zimbabwe is mobilizing more assistance for both Mozambique and Malawi under ZIMAID. Here at home, joint units of our Security Services continue to be on the lookout for any emergency cases in the country. A number of missions have already been successfully undertaken. Additionally, each Province in the country is set to receive 50 tonnes of grain as a standby facility in case of need. We must all continue to be on the lookout for weather-related hazards, and NEVER to take chances with flooded rivers.
