@SydneyWorks

Unfortunately I don't yet know how to turn down the brightness of the underlying map. These 2 images show #Crossrail (green) from Glebe Island (adjacent to Sydney's new #HSR station), Airport Tunnel diversion to become #RiverMetro (purple) + EasternCityLoopLine (pink). More later

@Sydney_Stations Induced demand vs latent demand - From what I've seen over the years, induced demand is ill-defined and mostly used politically. I also am sceptical of the idea of grand planners moulding their underlings. And m/s economists are dull, but real economists are much more fun.

I think the concept of induced demand gets so much resistance because planners (people with soul and passion, building communities and making the world better) don't like to be compared to economists (boring suits with boring spreadsheets, concerned with profit and not people)

I think of this every time another round of "consultation" is proposed, to the point that I'm actually sceptical about many processes for community input because basically every consultation process is hijacked by a few loud people with that inestimable luxury, time

this is the latest in a data series. My last project explained democratic distortions in local government

If you could give a name to the first Sydney Metro line (Tallawong to Bankstown) what would it be? Just like how the lines in the London Underground all have names.

@Alexsg200 I would love to run a campaign to have this “strategically pivoted” in its design and function, or have it canned. I think it’s that much a waste of $resources. The fact there’s no provision for it to stop between Olympic Park and Parramatta one day is difficult to comprehend.

Nowra to Central in 2h 31m. Not bad eh. Using the Coal Coast rail bypass and the Sutherland - Hurstville Tunnels (bridge across Woronora River adjacent to the existing rail bridge, diving into tunnels between Jannali and Como and Oatley and Hurstville. 180.6 km route, 36 stops.

#Syber update Saturday, 5 June 2021. Have reached Nowra (bridge from Bomaderry over the river to Nowra town centre). The Illawarra sub-network of Syber terminates there. I've also extended the CC1 line to Macarthur, and have starting sketching out the new #Wilton #CityCentre.

@jrobens Yeah. It's expensive to cross the Shoalhaven River and given the line hasn't been electrified to Bomaderry, it's snuggly in the basket labelled too hard, too little gain, not a priority. Meh. It's a low priority for me as well tbh. There's bigger fish to fry first.

And yes, I realise I forgot to rename the auto-filled 'Old Helensburgh Station' with just 'Helensburgh'. Corrected that now.

#SYBER Update Monday night, 24 May 2021. Illawarra Coal Coast Rail Bypass complete, as is drawing out the existing squiggly Illawarra Line between Waterfall and Thirroul - meaning I've got my first line extending out beyond the Sydney Basin. Paid far too much attention to detail.
