The Shah of Iran had tremendous personal affinity and strategic alignment with Pakistan.
He provided discounted artillery shells during the '65 War, shouted at the American Secretary of State Kissinger to not let Pakistan be bifurcated in '71, ordered the Iranian Airforce to ensure the aerial defense of Karachi in '65, called "🇵🇰's security" his "own", ordered his royal poets to commission a poem in a PAF aviator's honor, and sent his personal archaeologists to Mohenjodoro (where a tower in his honor with his face still stands). Moreover, the last foreign delegation he saw in office was also Pakistani, and of course, he lent Iranian helicopters - and oversaw joint Iran-Pakistan ops - to hunt Baloch terrorists in '74, aside from the robust Pakistan-Iran joint military exercises and civil services training initiatives. He, also, donated millions each year to the state-mandated Persian language program in Pakistani government schools.
A great friend of Pakistan, indeed.

To be the devil's advocate, Iran used to be one of the biggest allies of Pakistan. Shah Pehelvi's govt before 1979 was one of the biggest allies of Pakistan to the point where they helped us during the war of 1965 and 1971 both. It's only after the revolution of 1979 that the new Iranian Khomeinist regime started to tilt towards India and had antagonist tendencies towards Pakistan to the point where the regime started funding their proxies in Pakistan and even started recruiting huge number of people from Pakistan in their proxy networks and even a RAW operative was caught on Iranian side by Pakistan authorities.

What's even more ironic is Pakistan and Israel were partners against Iraq to save Iran in its most vulnerable years. Pakistan provided Iran with stinger missiles, while Israel provided it with spare parts + other military equipment, all while conducting the famous Operation Opera, which destroyed Iraq's and Saddam Hussein's nuclear weapons programme.

History will remember that Pakistan and Israel fought a cold war diplomatically and Pakistan won. But Iran and IRGC sided with Israel after war ended. Israel wanted chaos in middle east and IRGC gave it in a plate after violating MoU.
