Digital systems can track production volumes and revenues in real time improving accountability as well as providing integration with national systems like the Uganda Revenue Authority. Moreover, digitalization creates demand for Ugandan tech talent (data analysts, software engineers) and opportunities for universities and startups to participate. The opportunity for environmental monitoring & sustainability with real-time tracking of emissions, spills, and biodiversity impact using satellite and sensor data for compliance will also support achievement of ESG goals and build international investor confidence. As a new producer, Uganda has a great opportunity to “leapfrog” into modern digital operations by leveraging on digital tools to reduce operational costs, improve safety, and increase production efficiency.
