@felakuti playing notes from “Shuffering and Shmiling” Pulled from the 1979 documentary Konkombe, this moment captures Fela Kuti in his rawest, most unapologetic form. Commissioned as part of the celebrated “Beats of the Heart” series, Konkombe played a pivotal role in introducing contemporary African music to Western audiences at the dawn of the 1980s sparking a wave of global interest that led to some of the decade’s most exciting musical crossovers and genre hybrids. Directed by Jeremy Marre, the film offers a rare window into Nigeria’s vibrant music scene at a time when sound was deeply political and culture was a powerful force for expression. Fela made music but he also challenged systems, questioned authority and gave voice to the everyday struggles of the people. “Shuffering and Shmiling” remains a timeless reflection of that paradox we still see today. Do you think Fela Kuti’s message has changed, or does it still hit the same today?👇 🎥: @jazzisdead#SyncAll #FelaKuti #afrobeat #musichistory

@dolapocarter I don't think he did. After he posted the snippet for Aimoye, someone quoted, suggesting @SyncAllMusic could seamlessly obtain the rights. When it dropped, it was the company. Might be coincidence or not

Watch Ballaké Sissoko bring this centuries-old instrument —the kora to life in ‘Nan Sira Madi,’ reminding us that music is both heritage and art. The Kora, a 21-stringed West African harp-lute, weaves intricate melodies that tell stories of history, culture, and emotion.
