Can someone please go to Norway and teach the physiologists how to calibrate a metabolic cart. Seems we get dodgy VO2 data every second year with wildly inaccurate values and sensational stories about incredible endurance athletes. Only ever happens in Norway. Bizarre.

@DrPhilipSkiba I've seen the same here. Heck, our own lab was testing probably 15% high until we caught the drift. The difference is we're not posting the numbers on socials (and they're not world-record breaking numbers anyway 😄)

It happens in the USA too. The data is usually generated by some community gym or coach, and the athlete turns up at my door asking why they have a “world-class” VO2max but cannot break 20 minutes for 5k.
I tell them not to post the numbers online and re-test them.

I ride on the flat terrain solo on my bike (alloy frame and wheels) at around 30 km/h. How much faster do you think my rides would be on this ugly bike? 🤔 If it makes me reach 40 km/h average, I would buy it.

@CoachFergie @ergonizer uses data from a step test to determine vLaMax. In about 80% of the cases it seems plausible to me (can compare with lactate curve and VO2) and helps in decision making.

@laflammerouge16 For people deep in the sport may be interesting. For the broader audience a elevation profile and total elevation is fine. More would only add confusion for the masses.

Total elevation gain in stage races is misleading without more context—especially when most of it comes in the first half or in non-GC stages.
We should look at elevation in the second half, last X km, or only in high mountains.

@jem_arnold I didn’t go too deep into the details, but as far as I can see nothing is new or groundbreaking. The data has been there for years, but practice shows different results. I’m also aware of many coaches arguing with scientists about this. regarding cadence, there’s still work to do

@SynergyProTrain @SteCRS One factor to consider (in my opinion as a physiotherapist) is that surgery can improve the structure of the artery, but not necessarily the functional/biomechanical factors which may have contributed to endofibrosis in the first place. Return to sport rehabilitation is critical

Bilateral flow limitations are thought to be much less common in cyclists (<15%) but we think there may be higher prevalence with the "unaffected" leg still showing some functional limitations🔗👇

@SteCRS In general yes, although I don't know his particular details. Surgical outcomes are predominantly positive. Lots of examples in the men's & women's peloton of athletes returned. Of course, some are not able to return to their best unfortunately.
